January 1, 2025: DC

First time I’m typing 2025… another year is here. For the past number of years, we’ve gone away after Christmas, and have spent New Year’s in another state; we did the same this year. One of the first things we look at when planning a little getaway is where are our teams playing. With the Bulls and the Blackhawks in season, we had two potential options. The Bulls were on the road and playing on New Year’s Day against the Wizards in DC; let the plans begin.

Never been to Washington DC, actually, only passing through on the way back from Virginia Beach; believe we took a picture in front of the White House, and then were gone. This time would be a little different. The plan would be to stay in Washington DC from Monday-Friday; the weather on Monday and Tuesday was phenomenal, spring-like. We found something cool to do for the Eve, heading down to Alexandria, VA, to watch fireworks over the Potomac River; it was really nice. We slept in a bit before heading towards the Capital One Arena for the game in the evening. We stopped at Ford’s Theater for a tour first; it was awesome. Then, we were off to the game. Excited to get into a new stadium. With my son, we’ve only been to Milwaukee and Miami; now we can check Washington off the list. It happened to be Space Jam night, and of course MJ ended his career with the Wizards… can’t get away from #23. Unfortunately, our luck at Bulls games this year continued.

We saw them at home against the Timberwolves; it was a good game for 3 quarters before the Bulls got the doors blown off them in the 4th quarter. We had to listen to some whiny broad behind us for most of the game too… ugh. Next up was the Christmas Game at home against the Bucks; talk about a total embarrassment. Down Giannis and Lilliard, the Bucks bashed our heads in; I would still be booing in the UC if my wife didn’t grab my arm and drag me out… haha. Surely, the Bulls wouldn’t embarrass us on the road… surely, I would be wrong. The Wizards are one of the worse teams in the league; the Bulls are just a bit better though. The Wizards crushed us. They maintained a double digit lead for most of the game. Sick. But, we took it in stride. We were on vacation; we were celebrating New Year’s. We ain’t sweating it. The nice thing about the stadium was that the train was right there; took it one stop, transferred to another train, and ended up back at the station 2 blocks from our hotel. We used the train a lot out there. It was really clean, unlike what we’re used to here in Chicago.

0-3 at the Bulls games this year in person, and starting off 2025 with a thud; surely this year cannot be worse than last year for Chicago sports… We did watch some of the Winter Classic at Wrigley on the Eve; another L… appropriate way to end 2024, but starting 2025 like this?!?! Something has got to give…
