Happy New Year again. It always feels good to start fresh. I have 3 of those such moments each year. My work anniversary which is in April, my birthday in August, and of course, New Year’s Day. I try to use each of these times to reflect on my life; I try to take advantage of these “new beginnings”. I certainly won’t bore you with those details here. Instead, let’s take a look ahead for each of our teams. How will 2019 treat us in the Chicago sports world?
Let’s start with the immediate event. In 5 days, the Bears will host the Eagles in the Wild Card round. The result of that game will go a long way in seeing how 2019 will shape up. The Bears are all we got right now. With the Bulls and Hawks closer to or at the bottom of their leagues, and baseball still a couple months away, we need the Bears to keep playing. In order to keep playing, they need to win. Yes, I know we didn’t expect much from the boys this year, but here we are. And since we are here, we need to make the most of it. It certainly feels like the window is just opening for our Bears, but there are no guarantees. The fact that we’re here now is all that counts. We need to take advantage of each opportunity. This week, that means beating the Eagles. Much more to come on that game specifically. It feels so good that the Bears are back. I’m definitely riding that wave into the new year; I hope we can still be talking about Bears games in a month.
The alternative is talking about the Bulls and the Hawks; that’s not much fun. It’s never fun worrying about what draft pick our teams will be getting or who will be getting traded vs how we will finish the regular season. That’s where we’re at right now. Sure, can one or both of them make a run at the postseason? Maybe… and maybe I’ll stick to my resolution of exercising more often. We’ll have nice moments here and there; that will help keep us going. But the end result will be a shitty one. Will another top 10 pick for the Bulls get them over the hump? I know there is some young talent in the Hawks pipeline; how soon will they be able to make an impact? Those are the type of questions we’ll be focusing on with them.

Will the Cubs win another World Series? That’s the only question that really matters for Cubs fans nowadays. Will the Sox finally make strides in their rebuild? Thought maybe the 2018 Sox would be like the 2015 Cubs; maybe I was a year off? It would be nice if both of our baseball teams met in the World Series at some point, although that truly would be civil war here in Chicago. Stakes would be at their highest in that series. We’ve both seen 1 World Series in most of our lifetimes; who will get to see number 2 first? Maybe we’ll have an answer to that question in 2019.
This year will be my 25th at my current job; what does that mean? Where do we go from here? How will all of this tie together? Yes, 2019 will be an interesting year in a lot of fronts. Enjoy it!

New beginnings, sure need one of those for my comments…hahaha. So here I go, trying to stay current and focused on posting daily…again! Man, can you believe the Bears are a few days away from a playoff game at Soldier Field? 12-4 finish with a home playoff game coming…cannot ask for much more than that this year. Sure does seem like the Bears window is just opening up, but you can never take opportunities like this for granted. There is no reason that the Bears cannot win 4 more games. With the D being so great, MTru and the offense need to avoid turnovers, and the Bears will have a shot every game. Ride the wave is right…I’m ready for Sunday right now! As for the Bulls and Hawks, not much good coming this year. Yes, the Hawks may win a few games in a row from time to time, but they will need a 20-5 streak or something near that to get back in it. The Bulls are done. Get ready for another high first rounder. The young talent is good, but the Bulls will need to land a big free agent to put it all together. When will that be? Too early to think baseball, but 2019 should be another good one for the Cubs…hopefully good enough for #2. The sox should be hoping to contend for a playoff spot, too, depending on whether they land a free agent or 2. 2019 should be interesting. New beginnings are always good. Stick to some stuff, drop others, and stay focused on what really matters. Happy New Year!!!
