Well, I was wrong. I was hurrying to post my last blog, thinking there would be some Chicago Bulls news at the NBA trade deadline to report. The Bulls were 1 of 2 teams in the NBA to have no movement; can’t lie, it’s kind of disappointing.
I got excited about the rumor of the Bulls trading Zach Lavine to the Knicks. He is probably the single most frustrating Bull to watch; I’m trying to think of who else I felt this way about over the years… I’ll get back to you. Zach, who has an extremely quick first step, and who can finish with the best of them at the rim, has decided to become a catch and shoot guy. He has decided to kick it out to someone at the three point line, instead of finishing his move to the basket, and taking a shot that is 5x easier. He doesn’t play a whole heck of a lot of defense. And you know what else is annoying? Every time he does drive to the rim, he is yelling for a foul… just play ball man. So yeah, excuse me if I’m not jumping for joy at the thought of having Lavine around for another 4.5 years at approximately 40M per year. We did what we had to do to keep him in the offseason, but I thought we might be able to get away from it at the deadline; nope. Not only did we not move Zach, we did nothing… absolutely nothing.
What else could we have done? Well, good question. I guess we need a true point guard, with the high probability that Lonzo Ball will not see the court again, at least not this year. Love Ayo, don’t get me wrong; Caruso and Coby are nice players in their own right. But, we don’t really have a true, dynamic point guard, do we? Not like we can just find one of those guys easily, I’m just saying. And what about Patrick Williams? He has shown flashes… enough to finally justify his selection in the first round of the draft? I need to see it more consistently. Certainly not ready to give up on him, but he’s not there… yet. And Vooch? His contract is up; guess we’re resigning him too? DD? Love him, and we do have him for another year, so…
AKME made the decision to stand pat; I guess I’d rather have them do that vs. get fleeced on a deal they really didn’t want to make, just for the sake of doing something. That’s the discipline. Forget about what everybody is saying, right? We have to still trust in AKME, right? Do we still trust them? Well, the same question can be asked of Billy Donovan, and for that matter, this entire Bulls roster. We’ve seen them play at their best, and it’s pretty damn good. Yet, for the most part of the season, just like their Max man, the Bulls have been frustrating as hell to watch. Oh yeah, they got their asses kicked in Brooklyn against a team that just moved Kyrie and KD… the beat goes on…
