Double dose of Chicago on this Sunday gave us a double shot of victory; thank you, may I have another?
The Hawks started off the day early with their 11:30 AM start in St. Louis. It kind of reminded me of the game in LA against the Kings a couple weeks ago, except for one thing: the outcome. They jumped up 1-0; St. Louis tied it 1-1. They scored to go up 2-1; St. Louis tied it 2-2. As the 3rd period began, the Hawks went up 3-2; it was at this point that LA scored 2 straight to win the game… not today. The Hawks held on, and added an empty netter for good measure as they toppled the Blues 4-2.
This game featured a battle of the two active coaches with the most wins in the NHL. Coach Q sitting at #1 with 700 plus wins, will be moving into #2 all time very soon. Not sure if he’ll catch #1, and father of present Hawks GM, Scotty Bowman with 1,244, but as long as he stays coach of this team, he’s got a chance. If he averages 50 wins a year, that’s another 10 years!!! Stay healthy Coach Q… I’d love to see you do it.
It was a great way to start the day. All 3 Chicago goals should have been stopped by the goalie… all three goals coming from mid range shots, by Kruger, Bickell, and Hossa. The 2 goals that St. Louis scored, Crow had no chance. Tarasenko put a sick move on him on a breakaway, and Backes put in a rebound over a sprawled out Crawford. There was also a horrible penalty on Reaves, who tripped up Teuvo, and paid for it. Teuvo’s skate popped up and caught him in the mouth; couldn’t have happened to a better guy. It was entertaining from beginning to end, and I was glad to watch an entire Hawks game for a change.
The Hawks are now primed to play 8 straight home games! The United Center will be rocking, because 9 of the next 10 for the Bulls will be in the madhouse too.. They ended the day with a crazy win.

Didn’t catch much of this one, but saw the Bulls were up big, I think as much as 16 points at one point. As my wife flipped on the Grammys, I asked her what happened with the Bulls. A quick score check saw the Bulls down by a point. No, no, no… they’re not going to blow this game, are they? So I flipped it on to watch the last few minutes, and it didn’t look good. I mean, when you’re down by six points with 32 seconds left, it’s all but over, right? Wrong!
Jimmy Buckets made a huge steal, then got fouled… a BREAKAWAY foul… He drained 2 FTs, then the Bulls got the ball back. Rose gave the ball up to Butler, who got double teamed. He kicked it back to a wide open Rose who didn’t miss this 3 pointer… one point game. Magic inbounded, Bulls trapped, backcourt violation! Rose got the ball and drove to the rim, flipping up a shot, that just missed, but… Gasol was standing there to flush it back. Magic still had a chance, but blew 2 easy shots to win it… we needed one like this. We needed to get a win we shouldn’t have got. It all evens out in the end.
So 2 straight wins for the Hawks, and 2 straight wins for the Bulls to end their respective road trips. Now back to the UC for 17 of the next 18 for the boys… I’m thinking big run time. Hawks 4 points out of 3rd in the West, and the Bulls tied for the 3rd seed in the East, they’re both in great position. They’ve both been through their rough patches lately… now it’s time for the upswing.
The Hawks will look to continue their winning ways at the UC and improve upon their 16-7-1 record, while the Bulls look to wake up at home; 13-11 is not acceptable. So any predictions for the next 18 games? I’m going 13-5, any way you cut it. Welcome back boys… they’re baaack!!!
MK
Definitely think runs are coming for both teams. Hawks playing at home against some average teams while the Bulls will look to take advantage of their home court instead of being average there. My prediction is a bold one…15-3! Welcome home Hawks and Bulls…take full advantage and position yourselves for the playoffs!
GO HAWKS and BULLS!!!

This is off topic . But do you think the Cubs are going to sign another pitcher?
JEFFK
I thought they may sign Shields, but that didn’t happen. Actually going to write about that, maybe today… It’s like you read my mind. Stay tuned.
