Yes. Finally, I was able to watch most of the Hawks game…and I was able to stay up too. I was happy I did. The Hakws got a nice win over the Stars on this Wednesday night.
It was one of those rivalry games on NHL Network. Back in the day it was pretty fierce from what I’m told. The North Stars Blackhawks games would get pretty ugly. This currently rivalry has been pretty ugly too…for the Hawks. Losing 8 in a row vs these guys? Crazy. Yeah, but we know better. We know that doesn’t mean much considering what we’ve done to them in the postseason. Yeah, the tables are turned there. Still, it was nice breaking the Wild tonight. It was a good game.
Toews played his ass off. He was strong all game long. It was fitting that he got the game winner in OT. After a slow start to the season, coupled with an injury that kept him out for a while, and effected him longer than that, he has come on strong. Yes, he even admitted he didn’t belong in the ASG this year. But again, we know better, right? We know our Captain. We know how clutch he is. We know big time players make big time plays on the biggest stages. It wasn’t the biggest tonight, but for a regular season game, it was a decent size. He came through.
We shouldn’t have even been in OT. The refs definitely seemed to have it in for the Hawks tonight. The review that took forever, angle after angle, until finally we saw a clear shot of the offsides, and the refs STILL got it wrong??? And then the game tying goal late? Hammer got knocked to the ice to present the opportunity. No call? Yeah, it felt like a bit of a screw job, but it didn’t matter.
On the flip side, another reason we made it to OT was Crow. Big save after big save. He came to play tonight too. It’s that type of goaltending that we were accustomed to earlier in the year. It’s that type of goaltending that gives the Hawks a chance to win any game vs anybody. CrOwMG!

So where do we go from here? The Wild still have a decent lead with games in hand. Will we be able to get to the top of the West? Maybe not in the regular season…
I know there were articles written about how the Hawks shouldn’t stand pat…that they need to make a move. I’m not so sure. Sure, adding a body is always nice, but at what cost? I don’t want to dump any of the young guys. These are the guys who will eventually be part of the new core. These are the guys that will help keep this Hawks franchise on top for many years. This is the time to groom them. Keep the young crop. Keep our draft picks. Keep an eye on the long term.
Yeah, that other eye needs to be squarely focused on this year’s run. But if there is anybody in Chicago we can trust, besides Theo now, it’s Bowman. He has proven it with 3 Cups. Yes, we still want more.
Yes, tonight’s win is pretty nice, but the really nice ones happen come postseason. I think the Hawks can compete for it all this year without any moves. To add a piece whose price is right is never a bad thing. Either way, the Hawks will be right in the middle of things yet again. Now that’s a good type of ridiculous!

Captain Serious coming around. Yes, he has had an uncharacteristic year…hurt and not doing much offensively. But, he is turning things around and was all over the place vs the wild, including stuffing home the game winner in ot, #9 in his career to lead the Bhawks! Big 2 points on the road even though the refs helped get the wild 1 point for making the game go to ot. The Bhawks are still behind the wild in the western conference and may not catch them. Are you worried? We all know how well the Bhawks play on the road, especially in the playoffs. Yes, it would be nice to have home ice, but I am just as confident playing on the road. The Captain is coming around and will be there when needed. Do the Bhawks need another piece? Sure, if it comes at the right price, but definitely nothing to hurt this year or the future. Time to roll into winnipeg and keep this winning streak going!
