It’s a battle that I wish all our teams had to fight. It’s a battle you have to fight when you’re really, really good. This is one of the biggest challenges for Coach Q as the Blackhawks continue their golden era of hockey.
In the latest chapter, the Hawks continue to mash. First, a victory over the Coyotes. I love seeing them play down there, because it truly looks like a home game. I didn’t see this one, since I was watching the 30 for 30 on the 85 Bears. I should have flipped it on when that special was over, but I totally forgot. Not until I got a text message from my brother saying only one word: Toews!
Perfect isn’t it? After taking the hit for being sick, and getting suspended, he came back and reminded the league who the most clutch player in the world is; we didn’t need reminding. He fired a game winner in OT right past that goalie. It was his 5th GWG in OT this year…I think I heard his 8th of the season. So as Kane, Crawford, and the Russians get all the attention, and rightfully so, we know we have the ultimate ace in the hole with Taser. We know when it come down to it, there is nobody, I mean nobody you’d rather have on the ice when it counts than Jonathan…and add Patrick out there, it’s no wonder why this Hawks team is successful in those big moments.
And then it was the epic matchup with the first and second place Western Conference teams on Saturday night. It was epic alright, but only from one side of the ice. The Hawks smacked them down. This Dallas team, propelled to the top of the standings with one good line…and a bunch of ex-Hawks. Ok, that’s how I see it at least. Call it what you will, the Hawks smoked those bums. Yeah, I missed that too..choosing to watch the Bulls…talk about a whole ‘nother story. But I wasn’t surprised.

We’ve been over this before, but in my mind, and because it ties in perfectly with the title, the Hawks are some cockiness away from having won 3 cups in a row. Screw giving the Kings any credit, it was our overconfidence that put us in that hole, that we couldn’t dig out of…barely. If our focus was there from the start in that series, this Hawks team would have won 3 Cups in a row. The challenge is not letting that mistake happen again.
It’s not easy, especially for us fans too. I look back at my blog that year, and man was I overconfident. I guess that could be called cocky too. Confident isn’t a bad thing, it’s a good thing; too much of it, could be bad. So it’s cocky vs confident that Coach Q and our boys need to navigate. We may just get another chance at the Kings in the playoffs, and settle that score. This Hawks team is oozing with talent, again.
Maybe another mistake I’m making is taking them for granted during the regular season. Maybe I should be tuning into each and every minute of this best hockey team in our history. I didn’t miss much of those 85 Bears. I tuned in to almost every Bulls game during the Jordan 6 title era. This Blackhawks team is right there. Maybe I need to check my overconfidence at the door and enjoy every second of this, because as we know, it won’t last forever. Let’s make the most it. Let’s cherish this team as fans, and hope they keep that focus on the ice at all times. If so, we’ll all be celebrating a repeat Stanley Cup in about 4 months. Go Hawks!

Very difficult to walk that confident vs cocky line, which is why it is hard to maintain long winning streaks. Always seems like really good games in phoenix, and Toews showed why he is the Captain Clutch once again. Following that ot winner with a smackdown of the stars…put them in their place, behind the Hawks! This Hawks team looks poised to repeat, and I will be watching this greatness throughout. GO HAWKS!!!
