I know, I know… technically, in sports, there are no moral victories. A win is a win and a loss is a loss. Yet, when it comes to the Blackhawks loss to the Hurricanes on Tuesday night, I’m looking past the end result. I’m not that upset about losing that game. Actually, I’m feeling more encouraged because of it. Maybe that’s just me being me, or maybe, the Blackhawks are giving us some hope for the future earlier than we thought.
For starters, the Hurricanes are a really good team. They came into this matchup at 5-1, and I imagine, were expected to win this game, rather easily. Then, when they jumped out to a 2-0 lead, it was in the bag, right? Well, I thought so. They’re better than us, they have a 2 goal lead, the Hawks are toast. Well, the Hawks didn’t think so. A power play goal and a Kane goal before the end of the 1st period, and we were right back where we started. Yeah, another power play goal… nothing short of amazing how good our power play has been this year; we’ll need that success to continue. And then Kane… we’ll need him to be Super Kane as much as possible this year.
The 2nd period came and went with no score changes. Lankinen, our newly christened #1 goalie, at least in my book, shut them down after those first 2. Not until the Canes got a lucky bounce off a Murphy block right to their guy’s stick in front of the open net, did he give up another one; crazy how the puck bounces sometimes. Welp, it was a good effort, but no… Hawks weren’t done yet. They tied it up, again, and then hung on for dear life late in the period, sending the game to OT; we scratched out at least one point.
In that book, I looked up the cure for varicose veins, this is a true story, samples of viagra and I found collinsonia root. For a healthy relationship never buying tadalafil let any issue unresolved.OT came and went with some good chances on both sides, which brought us to the shootout. For the past decade or so, the first guy we’d send out has been Jonathan Toews… we miss him… we miss him in the shootouts too. Haven’t heard much about him and his absence; hope he’s OK. Hope he’s going to come back and play hockey again. Wish they’d let us know something. Anyways, it was Brinsky Cat first; stuffed. Patrick Kane next; stuffed. Lankinen did his job and stopped the first two shots also. Strome was up next, same result. Then the Canes “took the lead” for the 3rd and final time scoring a shootout goal, this time, leaving the Hawks no chance to respond. Sucked to end this way, but valiant effort by the boys.
We’ll get another chance at them Thursday night at the UC; in fact, we’ll face them 6 more times after that… same with the Lightning… same with the Panthers. With the scheduling changes, we will have to play those beasts more than we’d like; on the flip side, we will see the Red Wings 6 more times. Whatever… The fact is, what I thought would be a completely lost season, is turning into something more than that. Sure, it will not result in playoffs, but the progress that we’ve made in the goaltending position, and the experience that our young guys are getting, may mean a shorter turnaround on this “rebuild” than I had expected. The Hawks are showing some promise; it’ll take time for that to grow into something, but at least it feels like we’re headed in the right direction. Go Hawks!
