February 3, 2017: At Home In Arizona

posted in: Blackhawks | 1

I had to check the standings.  After the Hawks came out and took a 3-0 lead against Phoenix last night, I had to see how good the Coyotes were… or should I say how bad.  They are the 2nd worst team in the NHL; the worst anyone?  anyone?  The Colorado Avalanche; kind of surprising.  I just needed to know how excited I should be getting that the Hawks were putting the beat down on them early.  The answer was, not too much.

But man, do the Blackhawks look good when those goals are going in.  Kane fired one past Smith.  Hartman too.  Then Hossa with a nice one on one effort.  This was too easy.  Wasn’t it bad enough that the Coyotes were essentially playing a road game in their home arena?  Yes, the Blackhawks were definitely at home in Arizona with all those fans.  It’s not surprising.

Besides being a nice destination to see a road game during the Chicago winter, which by the way, hasn’t been bad at all, there are many transplants down there.  The best Bears game I ever saw in person was in Arizona… the MNF game where the Bears showed everybody that they were who everybody thought they were.  Yeah, awesome time.  Plenty of Bears fans were in the house for that one.  Chicago will be out in full force in Arizona soon with Spring Training starting up in a little less than 2 weeks.  It’s a great time of year to be a Chicago transplant living in Arizona.  The Hawks helped start that off last night.

It got close though.  I was actually able to stay up for this one.. the whole thing!  I saw all those stupid penalties including the multiple times we shot the puck over the boards.  It was really the only way to keep the Coyotes in it.  A gift 5 on 3 gave them their first goal.  Then it was time for the Bread Man to score his first goal in almost a month.

Yeah, he got his contract extension, and now ain’t doing crap.  Haha…  I’m sure he’s been pressing a bit.  Or maybe, every team in the NHL is focusing on shutting down that 2nd Hawks line because without them, the Hawks offense struggles.  They got their bones today.  Kane to Anisimov to Panarin waiting in the left circle, ready to one time that puck past the opposing goalie.  It definitely is a thing of beauty.  Glad to see him back on the score sheet.

But the Coyotes weren’t done.  They pulled within 1 before the end of the 2nd period where Bread Man’s goal was the only bright spot.  The Hawks got outskated badly that period, and thankfully, were able to hold it together in the 3rd to escape with a one goal victory against the NHLs 2nd worst team.  Yes, after watching how close they made it, I’m really not that excited.

They got the 2 points, and that’s all that matters.  Every point is critical in the quest to get home ice in the playoffs.  It will be nice to have that advantage if we can get it; we may need it.

It was nice to have that home ice feel last night.  That may have helped us hold on.  It shouldn’t have been that close.  But, three game losing streak over; next winning streak started.  Go Hawks!

Way to end the losing streak Bhawks. Nice goal by Hoss and another one-time rocket by Panarin. The Bhawks tried to put the lowly yotes away in the 1st, but they stayed in the game and made it close. A little sweat but back in the win column and 2 more points for the Bhawks. Time to start a winning streak and play some better hockey boys…on to dallas to shoot some stars!
