February 28, 2016: What it Takes

posted in: Blackhawks, Bulls | 2

Do you have what it takes?  You either got it or you don’t.  It feels like I wrote something like this before…

Where to start… I’ve got some good news and some bad news…  Let’s start with the bad, because you know I like happy endings.  Let’s talk about someone who doesn’t have what it takes.  And that my friends, appears to be Derrick Rose, or as he’s better known as nowadays, General Soreness.

I loved Derrick Rose.  I’ve been one of his biggest supporters over the years, through the injuries, through all the bashing.  I still support him because he plays for one of our teams.  Problem is, he opened his mouth again.  Just when he started to play better and string some consistent performances together.  So he sat out a game because of general soreness, and I ripped him.  He sat out a game this week, and I backed off…partly because we still won the game, but….  I pumped the brakes because maybe if it takes him missing a game here or there, it will be good for the long term; this will help him be there when he’s needed most… in the playoffs.  Yeah, that’s it.  So I laid off.  Then he missed another game and another…both losses, but that wasn’t the worst of it.  He said if he felt the same soreness in the playoffs, he would still sit out… things that make you go hmmm..

That’s some bullshit, let’s just call it what it is.  You got Taj, Joakim, Deng, Buckets all playing their hearts out, leaving their guts on the court in previous postseason runs.  And then you got Derrick, who would still sit out a game… a playoff game because of general soreness.  Why do you continue to talk?  Ranking right up there with the PJ’s graduation comments, this was another boneheaded thing to say.  And to think he really means that?  To think this guy who’s missed so many games because of injury… who refused to come back in the postseason even though he was able to practice on the court… and now, still, would miss postseason play because of soreness.  There are only some many opportunities we will have in our career to go for it… to be in a position to win it all.  All indications point to this Bulls team missing the window, and the biggest reason for this, is Derrick Rose not playing.  And still?  You are truly an idiot Derrick.

That sort of had the makings of a hate file there… but you know the rules.  On to some guys who we know definitely have what it takes.  It was the other guys that play in the UC, who had a potential Stanley Cup preview with the Washington Capitals on Sunday.  They took care of business.  They make a habit of that.  Do the Capitals have what it takes?  They sure look like it… in the regular season, but they’ve yet to prove a damn thing in the postseason.  Good luck coming out of the East.  We know we’ll have to navigate through the mine field that is the Western Conference.  But I still hold claim to this… in any 7 game series, there is not another team I’d rather be than our team.  I got the Hawks in any 7 game series, who you got?

Let’s talk about some other guys who have what it takes.  Steph Curry… another great performance from what I’m hearing on Saturday night.  I have nothing against him, besides the… you know, the whole 72-10 thing that’s at stake.  He has been pretty phenomenal this year.  How about taking you off the beaten road and look at the winner of the best actor this year, Leonardo DiCaprio.  Here’s a guy who’s been putting in work… all the great movies, all the great roles over the years, and it paid off with his 1st Oscar.  Yeah, he didn’t complain for not getting nominated, or not winning… he just kept at it… you stick to what you do… you put in the work… and YOU will see the results.  If everybody else does, then great.  They did tonight.  And how about my pops (Happy Birthday!)… he has what it takes too.  A great husband, father of 3, grandfather to 9…  yeah, he’s put in the work… still does… I’m glad I have a good role model to continue to look up to.

So there… a happy ending.  While Derrick continues to miss the point, the Hawks continue to get points.  While Curry scores points, DiCaprio ended tonight with the best point, so I’ll steal it.  As he talked about saving the earth, and not taking this planet for granted, he ended with this:  I don’t take this night for granted.  Some great words, about not only tonight, or tomorrow, but life.  Whether it’s playing through pain in a playoff game, continuing to strive for greatness even after achieving it, or working tirelessly to reach the top, don’t take it for granted.  Don’t take life for granted… through all the struggles, and ups and downs, take life for what it really is… a gift.  Do you have what it takes?

    thanx fot the shout-out…

and today in the paper, the word is that drose is more worried about his next contract than playing out this year! here’s a potential super star that doesn’t really have THE GAME at heart. he’s more worried about the money and his life after basketball than actually playing the game. big paycheck, no love for the game……..pretty sad-for the game and the fans. he should be on the block and get what we can before his next ‘big’ injury’…’cause we all know that’s coming!!

Drose is and has been done. Yes, he shows flashes now and then, but just like being able to stay healthy, it is few and far between. Get rid of this homegrown joker who had it all and blew it…not his fault at first but true colors show now. No way the Bulls should even consider resigning, even for a huge hometown discount, which I am sure drose wouldnt even think of giving since he needs so much more money…clown!
The Hawks, meanwhile, continue to show why they are the new standard in the nhl. They win and are not satisfied with the status quo as they make moves to bolster their repeat chances. Capitals? Yeah, ok…goodluck seeing the Hawks again this year!
Curry and gsw impressed the other night in okc. I dont hate him or his team. I just wish they didnt break the Bulls record.
As far as leo dicaprio, long over due and much deserved with gems like titanic, the departed, and catch me if you can, to name a few.
Nothing in life should be taken for granted. When you start doing that, bad things happen. Enjoy life and those you choose to be in it…to the fullest!
