February 25, 2023: All the Cards

The tank masters that were the 2022-2023 Chicago Bears did it. As we all know by now, the Chicago Bears finished with the worst record and the #1 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. We still have that pick by the way, and that’s OK. But just know this: we will definitely be trading it. We should be, and we should fleece some other team for it, because having the overall #1 pick, is like holding all the cards in a poker game; we can’t lose… well, we SHOULDN’T lose…

I think the “trade Fields” noise is finally dying down; you didn’t really believe that for one second did you? I know, some are not big fans of Justin; they think he’s a running back NOT a quarterback. I hear you, but… I don’t agree with you. Yes, Justin showed a lot more promise with his legs than his arm this year, but that should be viewed as a positive NOT a negative. To have that multi-dimensional weapon at QB… when have we had that? Oh yeah, about that OTHER dimension, the throwing part… are we really saying that Justin can’t throw the ball well? Offensive line protection, lack of WRs/weapons, new offense… I have plenty of excuses for that. Did he not show us glimpses of what he could do throwing the ball down the field? He has a big arm; maybe he’s a little slow with his progressions… always room for improvement. I certainly would have liked to see his WRs catch the ball, and at the very least, make a better effort; there were a handful of KEY drops this year, which as it turns out, actually helped our case on the way to the worst record in the NFL. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Justin Fields has done enough to be given a chance to be THE guy. Will he be THE guy? I certainly think, from my non-expert, die hard fan eyes, that he has a better chance than anybody out there in this year’s draft. Case closed in my head.

Maybe the Bears should use that pick on a non-QB. I guess that’s another option, not a smart one IMO. Are we totally in love with one of the defensive guys out there? If so, I guess… if we think he’s a can’t miss type guy to build our defense around. I just think the return on the trading of this pick will be too great to pass up. How many times have we’ve been fleeced in deals? More than the other outcome, that’s for sure. Now it’s OUR time to get overpaid for what we have. Dangle that #1 pick in front of the entire NFL, especially in front of teams that need a QB, teams with a high first round pick themselves. Let them come with offers; let them bid it up. Wait, wait until that moment where we’ve received maximum value for it, and then pull the trigger. That’s how it should work.

So, part one of the plan was accomplished; now part two is on the table. Get a fricking haul for the overall #1 pick. This haul, including draft picks, current players, should help us boost this rebuild into contention NEXT year… yeah, I said it. On top of all our other picks and cap space, turn this overall #1 pick into gold Poles. That is your mission; you already chose to accept it. You have about 2 months… good luck to all of us. Bear Down!
