February 24, 2021: Mr. 2500

Why do you do what you do? There has to be a reason behind the things you do. If not, then why do them? Do you feel forced to do certain things, like you don’t have a choice? Well, you do have a choice… always. The available options may not be good, but you always have a choice. Own what you do; take accountability for your life like you’re living it on purpose, with purpose. What is the purpose? There IS a purpose right? Yeah, there is.

I remember reading a book called A Purpose Driven Life; it was great, highly recommend it. I don’t remember all the details; I do recall being told to read through the book one chapter per day, which I did. The other thing I remember it saying, right out of the gate is… it’s not about you. So this life we’re living, OUR life, is NOT about us??? Yes, that’s exactly right.

Living your life for others, huh? This is what it’s all about? Yes, yes it is, but doing things for you, taking care of yourself, puts you in a better position to do for others, right? I think so… if that’s really why you do it. Take working for example. You work to make money, right? I know I do. Money is the root of all evil, but it’s a necessary evil, no? Yes. You need money to live, right? Well, yeah… I guess. I have this fortune taped to my monitor at work that reminds me why I do what I do: You have a strong desire for a home and your family comes first. This is why I work; you think I want to? Who really wants to work? Maybe when I get old and don’t have to work, I’ll feel like I need to, but that’s a hard concept to grasp right now. Hell yeah I’d rather just be sitting on my ass; don’t worry about me… I’ll fill the time.

Why do I write this blog? That’s another question I ask myself from time to time. Like feeling I HAVE to write something everyday… I don’t… I want to though, but why? Well, I enjoy writing & Chicago sports for starters. I use my writing as an outlet, like my therapy as I’ve mentioned many times. Maybe this turns into something that makes money for me one day, like a book or something; maybe not. Maybe I’m fine either way. Maybe I’d like my son to one day be able to look back and read all this stuff… or at least some of this stuff… like he’d really have time for that… like he’d really want to. Maybe I think of it as something I can leave for him, more than just money, like a family business or something, passing it on… maybe HE can turn this into something one day. Maybe my writing skills will help serve somebody else one day; maybe some of my words will help somebody; maybe through my words I keep in touch with others… I don’t know. Maybe my doing this, by writing every day, it helps clear my mind… my mind should be pretty clear then huh?

Why am I writing all this now? Well, this blog today is a milestone of sorts; it’s my 2,500th blog. That’s right… 2,500 straight days with something posted. Call me Mr. 2500… haha. You’d think I’d have made at least $2,500 this whole time… hahaha. Anyways, do what you do, do what you love, and do for others. Just remember at the end of the day, only YOU can control what you do… nobody else. This is YOUR life; own it baby.
