So Justin Fields unfollows the Bears on instagram and it becomes front page news? Slow sports day? Pretty wild to me watching this unfold. We’re sitting there smoking our cigars, watching ESPN (which I rarely watch, but still think Around the Horn and PTI are the only watchable shows), and it’s all about this topic. Let’s everybody weigh in on this click by Justin, and then Justin talks on some podcast about it… Ooohh baby, let me break out the popcorn.
The most “interesting” thing he said, from what I read, was about Jordan vs LeBron. Nobody is perfect OK. To state the one sports opinion that I can’t respect, in the town where the real GOAT played… my first instinct is F this guy, but… cooler heads prevail. He’s young and dumb; he’s never seen MJ play. Although I cannot respect his opinions on sports after that comment, I don’t have to. I want to respect his talents on the field. I want to see him lead the Bears to a Super Bowl. Will we get that chance?
Fields is complaining about all the trade rumors; he doesn’t want all this stuff on his timeline. Well Justin, that’s life as an NFL QB in a big city bro; man up homie. And guess what? Maybe if your play was better in your time in Chicago, we wouldn’t be having these conversations. Certainly, we wouldn’t have the number one overall pick the year a guy is coming out that is supposedly the “next coming”. So yeah, maybe you should share some of the blame. We can talk about Getsy (who has a different opinion of the way things went in Chicago) and the other OCs. We can talk about the lack of weapons. I can walk down that path a bit with you, for sure. But, your play is under consideration as well, and let me tell you, there is definitely some room for improvement. You’re not exactly killing it out there. You have made your share of boneheaded plays. Look, you have made your share of great plays too; it’s these plays that give us hope, and for some of us, including me, hope means something. I hope you can get better. I hope you can be that guy. I hope you can lead us to a Super Bowl. I’m walking down that path too. You seem like a good enough dude, but you’re in a results oriented bottom line league, and the results suck, so… QBs are tied to the win loss record of their teams more than anyone other than maybe the coach. It matters. Yes, we ended the year strong. Yes, we saw some more flashes. Is it enough for us to pass up on this “once in a lifetime guy”?
This is why everything is out there Justin, if you need someone to explain it to you. And about this other guy… I’m not convinced, but what do I know? What does any Bears fan under the age of 80 know about an NFL QB? News flash: the Bears haven’t had a franchise QB since the 1940s… as if you need anything else to help you understand this situation. We haven’t won a Super Bowl since… don’t worry about it… you weren’t alive for it, just like you weren’t alive for MJ. What I do know is that I’d like to see another Super Bowl in my lifetime, as I’m sure all Bears fans can relate to, especially those that weren’t around for 85. To me, it doesn’t matter who the QB is… I want to win. If you can do that, then cool. If you can’t, then we need to find somebody who can… this merry go round has been going non-stop for 38 years… I’m behind you Justin, as long as you’re wearing a Bears uniform; I hope you can be that guy. If the Bears think Caleb has a better chance of being that guy, well… I’m just going to have to ride with that, because what else can I do? It’s not like they haven’t been right about the QB position before, right? Right? Until then, let’s just do as we do Justin… Bear Down!
