I can’t even function. Three hours of sleep is not enough. At one point in my life, I was able to get away with it. Heck, sometimes I wouldn’t even sleep; I’d eventually pay the price. Nowadays, at the ripe old age of 40, trying to function after getting 3 hours of sleep is a rough proposition. It all started because I had to come in at different times to work this week.
I ended up staying late one night, coming home for a few hours, then going back to work the 3rd shift. I don’t know how people work that shift. I could do 2nd shift, but 3rd shift… no way. I remember when I worked that shift for a few weeks… Around 330am, your body starts to get colder. I would always wonder why people had blankets on 3rd shift. It wasn’t because it was cold, it was because your body gets cold. Your body is up and functioning when it should be sleeping and resting. You’re fighting your natural body function.
Yes, on this night I only stood for a few hours, but it threw me all out of whack. I was already behind on my blog; this added to it. I need to catch up. There have been some things going on…
One thing I do like about being up those hours is listening to late night sports radio. Les Grobstein… got to love him. He is an encyclopedia of Chicago sports information. Working late night at the Score, if I’m ever up, I will tune in. It helps that he’s a Cubs fan, but he knows ALL Chicago sports… even all the local colleges. Some of his callers are funny.
Who the heck is up at 230 in the morning listening to sports radio? Yeah, he gets some interesting calls. Seems like lots of old guys who have been calling into Les for decades. He gets to know these guys, and they just talk for a few, sharing opinions on the topic of the day. On this night, he had an opinion about DePaul basketball.

He said the Big East is the best place for the Blue Demons because a lot of their historic rivals are in the conference. Being in the Conference USA would mean playing against these teams that they never play. That wouldn’t be good. It’s hard enough getting folks to come out to watch a game with the stadium being in Rosemont. Although that is changing soon…
I guess I should get out to see a game, after all, I did graduate from DePaul. I guess I should show some support for the Blue Demons. Maybe with the new stadium… yeah, that will make it a lot more convenient.
So I’m better now… I’ve recovered some of my sleep. I actually slept 8 hours! This has only been the 2nd day this year that I got a full 8 hours of sleep in a night… according to my FitBit. Now, I’m ready to roll.
Enough of this aimless rambling… like a Les Grobstein caller at 230 in the morning. Let’s get to it. Let’s get to what GarPax did now. I’m ready.

DePaul Blue Demon basketball…man, when was the last time they were relevent? Well, let me tell you. Their last march madness tournament appearance was in 2004. They are now 9-20 this year and have not had a winning season in 10 years. They had a stretch of 23 straight winning seasons from 1972-1995. Why are they so bad? I dont think the conference matters although I do agree that they should remain in the big east. Where they play in rosemont is a problem, but definitely not why they dont win. How does a city school play 30 miles away? Makes no sense and glad to see that changing. Bottom line, Depaul does not have the talent to compete with top ncaa teams, let alone big east teams. Some of the local talent needs to be recruited and kept here. Land a big name or 5 and get back to winning bball…easier said than done but no time like the present to get that started. Hope the Blue Demons get things turned around soon so I could feel better about rooting for my alma mater!
