It was supposed to be a good Friday night… a good start to the weekend. The Bulls were finally back on the court AND the Hawks were at the UC. Two wins were lined up in this double dip.
Two losses happened instead. I watched most of the Bulls game, and it was the same story. They were unable to knock out a crappy team. The Pistons, bad enough already, were shorthanded for this contest. After the trades they made, I believe they only dressed 10 guys. On the flip side, the Bulls were at full strength. The Pistons missed 15 free throws on their way to shooting 54% from the line. The Bulls shot 91% from the free throw line while missing only 2 FTs. So what happened?
The Bulls committed 20 turnovers, double that of the Pistons. That’s just sloppy play. Do you blame the week off? Detroit had a week off too. Do you blame the missed practice for turnover leader Derrick Rose? He turns the ball over missed practice or not. Lack of focus maybe? Thinking they’re going to walk over some team… while barely trying. It was a bad way to start the 2nd half of the season, this we do know.
There were some good signs, like Jimmy Buckets pouring in 30 points, and… well Taj had 15 & 9. Dunleavy 0-5, Snell 2 points, Rose 8 points. Hell, Gasol only had 12 points. It was a dud highlighted with all those turnovers. And, they missed a ton of easy shots! This is definitely NOT the team the Bulls need to be to do any damage in the playoffs.

The Bulls are a .500 team since December 29. A 12-12 record is not going to get it done. When will they break out of this mediocrity? When will they end this slump? When will they start playing like the team they can be? They need to get this latest loss out of our system, and move on… quickly. Back to the UC to face the Suns tonight, where they’ve won 4 straight. Let’s take care of business at home.
Tuning into the Hawks, I saw the game knotted at 1-1 in the 2nd. Next thing I knew it was the Hawks postgame show discussing a 4-1 defeat. Another dud in the books. The Hawks are 2-4 on this homestand. Yes, they have earned 1 point in 3 of those 4 losses, which DOES make it better. Still, not sure if 2-1-3 is what we were expecting so far. The Hawks are only 1 game over .500 in that same time frame since December 29. They too have been playing mighty average lately.
It’s the midseason swoon, and both of our teams need to snap out of it. Maybe it’s too early to snap out of it, and get on a good run. Maybe this will continue for another month. Are we able to handle that? Will we stay strong and believe that these guys will play well when it counts? That’s what we have to believe, right?
I do, of course, believe that. I do NOT believe that either of these teams are average, or anywhere close to a .500 team. I am disappointed in the frequent duds, but still hold on to the double title aspirations I squawked at the beginning of the year. That may turn out to be the biggest dud of the year. The Bears already made us look like idiots. Don’t do it to us boys. Get all these duds out of your system now. We need another title in our city, and you guys are our best hope… that is, until baseball season begins… haha.
