February 20, 2022: The Proper Debate

posted in: Bulls | 0

So I did happen to tune into the last few minutes of the All Star game on Sunday night. I was so lucky to see LeBron hit the game winning shot for “Team LeBron”. First off, let’s get back to the East vs the West shall we? Seeing DD play AGAINST Lavine, somebody from his own team, let alone the same conference, is stupid IMO. Yeah, maybe I’m just old, or of the opinion that some things were better back then, but… so what? What’s true is true.

I did happen to see a bunch of MJ stuff from Sunday at the All Star Game in Cleveland, a place where MJ routinely ripped out hearts. The Shot over Ehlo, the 69 point effort, the Shot II over the Jordan Stopper Gerald Wilkins… yeah, good times I say. Add Sunday to the list, as the greatest player of all time was properly honored during the festivities. It was cool to see him not only yucking it up with the old guys, but even going up to the new breed, like Doncic and Giannis. I liked seeing him with Rodman; Pippen was not there… go figure. Shit, even him hugging LeBron, reminding him that #2 is the highest possible all-time ranking he could get, was cool. Speaking of that… I finally saw what I believe is the proper debate.

Who is better? Kobe or LeBron? Now we’re talking. Keep MJ’s name out of the discussion. There is no debate when it comes to the GOAT. I know, fans of both LBJ and Kobe will whine… old heads loving Kareem and/or Bill Russell will chime in… but when it comes to the best there ever was, that debate is settled… forever. I know it gets clicks and all. Just the fact that every single great player that comes through the NBA is compared to MJ should be proof enough, no? He IS the bar; nobody is close. I saw a recent debate about how the difference between MJ and LeBron is an entire Hall of Fame career… enough said. Turning the debate to LBJ vs Kobe is a much more fitting discussion.

I don’t necessarily cares who comes after MJ, and in which order people want to rank them. I hated Kobe for a long time, eventually gaining respect for his game; he was the best student of Jordan’s game… one of the only ones who could come close to emulating it. But, the student never passes the teacher in this story. I wonder if I’ll learn to respect LeBron in time… The latest news with him is how he wants to play with his son in the NBA. Regardless of how I feel about the guy, playing with your son in the NBA would be pretty cool. But how’s that going to work? Let alone if Lebron is still playing, will his son even make the league? I’m sure some strings can be pulled. But then does LeBron’s team have to draft him, or does LeBron jump teams again to the team that DOES draft him? I don’t know… not crazy about all this system rigging, that LBJ enjoys, but… playing on the court with your son would be cool.

OK, let’s close up the All Star discussions for the year, and turn our attention back to the regular season, which thus far, has been one hell of a ride for our Bulls. Can’t wait until Thursday… Go Bulls!
