Did you see the news? Sebastian Janikowski has been set free by the Raiders, and now he can come home to Chicago.
He’s not really from Chicago; he was actually born in Poland. But, being that Chicago has the 2nd largest Polish American population in the US, this would be a fine place for him to settle in. I actually remember when he came out of Florida State…
I was hoping the Bears drafted him. That of course was the 2000 NFL draft, and the Bears took a slight chance on this LB from New Mexico; that worked out pretty good. If the Raiders didn’t take him at 17 overall, maybe the Bears could have snatched him in the 2nd round… Oh yeah, we ended up with this safety out of Nebraska; he was no slouch either. I guess we could have taken him instead of one of our 3rd round picks of Dez White and Dustin Lyman.
But it didn’t happen. Sebastian went to Oakland in the first round. Yes, a kicker in the first round!?!? I think that’s pretty stupid in general, although… the importance of a FG kicker should not be overlooked. See the recent Bears kicking problems since the departure of Gould. See Vinatieri with all those big kicks in the Super Bowl. Yet, taking that kicker, the Raiders passed on Chad Pennington and Shaun Alexander for starters. Yet, looking later in that draft, specifically the 5th round, the Raiders scooped up another kicker, a punter to be specific. Shane Lechler was no slouch.
Still, if they waited until the 6th round, the Raiders could have snatched up another kicker such as Neil Rackers or Paul Edinger. Love Rackers for that missed FG in the MNF thriller vs the Cards, and Edinger wasn’t that bad was he? He had that weird prep before each kick…

Yet, all this talk about the 2000 NFL draft wouldn’t be complete without mentioning someone that was passed over repeatedly by every single team. With the 199th pick of the 2000 NFL draft, the Pats select Tom Brady… wow!
So now that you have your history lesson, back to bringing the big lefty to Chicago. We could set him up with a nice place on either Milwaukee or Archer Ave, depending on which baseball team he’d like to root for. The Red Apple Buffet would be a nice place to go to eat, or maybe Bobak’s; is that restaurant still open? No it’s not… dammit. But, no fear.. there’s plenty of vodka here in Chicago too, and some nice bars and clubs you could attend if you were in the market for a female companion… haha.
Anyways, if you came, we’d even start a fan club for you… the Chicago Janikowskis… I’m sure there are a few of those in Chicago anyways. Just as long as you made all your kicks and knocked the crap out of a few people on kick coverage, which you look like you could do, you’d be golden. A lefty kicker? Would that be the first ever in Chicago Bears history? That would be pretty cool.
So think about it. We have some free agent bucks. Sign for a couple years; become a folk hero in these streets… haha. You couldn’t possibly be worse than what we’ve had since Gould… come on down Sebastian. Bear Down!

The big Pol! I like the idea of having a lefty kicker. I mean, 2 that I know of, morten anderson and janikowski, are and will be Hall of Famers. Wasn’t there a lefty grammatica, too? Oh well, he sucked. I sure don’t regret not taking him in the 1st round of the 2000 draft. The Bears got lucky with Urlacher who is headed to the Hall. Mike Brown was a playmaking safety, too…back to back interceptions for td’s in ot I believe. Hard to imagine a team ever taking a kicker in the 1st round, but the raiders sure did that year. He has been great for them for so many years…a huge leg! He can’t be worse than the guys the Bears have been dragging around the last couple years. Maybe, if he comes cheap, he can come finish his career here, and hopefully drill some long ones to win the Bears a few close games! BEAR DOWN!!!

Yes Good old SeaBass was great for us, he was there in the good times and the bad times mostly bad times but he and our punter Shane Lechler where the MVP’s for all those losing years. I know the kickers being the best players for all those years is a sad statement.
