Did you watch the NBA All Star game? I had no plans to, but we did flip it on for a few minutes; I saw enough. I saw the exact reason why I had no interest in watching it. The game has essentially turned into a 3 point, dunk, and lay up show; there is zero defense being played. Whoever is having a hotter shooting night and/or feels the energy to go to the rim, will win the game. Not even sure who won… was it Team Giannis vs Team LeBron again? I did see Tatum won the MVP. The NBA needs to do something about the actual All Star game; they’re lucky that they have the dunk and 3 point competition, although even the dunk contest is suspect nowadays. They have the celebrity game, rookie game, skills competition I think; it is nice that they make a whole weekend of it. The NHL has kind of done the same thing. This makes sense. But for the actual game itself, what should they do?
Well, the NFL finally did something about their problem. You know, everybody was bitching about the Pro Bowl because there was no tackling etc; “why don’t they just play flag football?” Well, the NFL actually listened to that, and turned the game into a flag football game… haha. I didn’t watch any of it. I think the NFL will figure it out; it will get better. It does make sense that they don’t have a regular game, because of the higher probability of injuries. I guess the next one that would be concerned about that is the NHL; I don’t think they play much defense in their All Star game either, right? The only “real” All Star game is the MLB one. Sure, it does lean towards more of a pitching duel, who to some is boring, but… I love it. It’s the best hitters trying to hit the best pitchers; there is no taking anything off. It’s the real deal, well, with a couple of cool things added, like the pitcher, batter, or fielder mic. So back to my original question: how does the NBA fix their All Star game?
I guess guys can worry about injuries there too, although, come on… really? But yeah, really, because guys take days off during the regular season, when games actually count, to “avoid injury”. Heck, LeBron is trailblazing the way on how to take plays off during the actual game to extend his energy and longevity. Jordan would never… haha. Putting aside the unnecessary injury concern, the way to make this a real game is to make it count. The easiest would be switch back to East vs West, and have whichever team win have home court advantage in the Finals. If they didn’t want to do that, then maybe focus on their pockets. $0 for the losers and, I don’t know, $500,000 for each member of the winning team? Since the NBA grows money on trees, this shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Well, there are two ideas. Until then, I won’t be watching the NBA All Star game; I think there are many with the same opinion. However, there are many that don’t care, and will watch anyways, so… really, the NBA doesn’t have to do crap as long as enough people fall into that category. Just to see their favorite players run up and down the court is enough. To each their own. Ready for the regular season to resume… I got bets to make! Haha…
