February 19, 2017: Counting Down

Still catching up a bit… have to talk about the NBA All Star game.  No I don’t.  I didn’t watch any of it.  I saw a couple highlights, like the alley oop from Durant to Westbrook.  I saw all the points that were scored including Anthony Davis (Chicago represent) breaking Wilt’s All Star scoring record.  Other than that, not much to see here.  It wasn’t until after the game that the fireworks began.

Demarcus Cousins was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans.  Whew!  Damn!

First off, I’m glad the Bulls didn’t get him.  Is he a talented player?  Yes.  Is he better than anybody we have today?  Everybody except one.  Would he make the Bulls a better team on the court?  Possibly.  He is what is known as a “cancer in the clubhouse”.  Do you think we need more of that on this team?

I guess if the team has a strong willed coach, who can keep strong personalities on the same page, adding someone like Cousins could equal the positives outweighing the negatives.  Adding Cousins to this current Bulls team would be a disaster.  I’ve seen some stuff about him… watched some video of him in Sacramento.  He definitely seems a bit nuts.  Good luck Pelicans.

The “Damn” part of my comments above has to do with the Kings draft pick.  The Bulls would get this 1st round pick in 2017 IF the pick was NOT top 10.  Well, without Cousins, the popular thought is that they Kings record will plummet, meaning the odds of getting a top 10 pick are pretty good, which means the Bulls would get a 2nd round pick most likely.  The Bulls had nothing to do with this trade, but got smacked anyways.  That’s about right.

What will happen next before the NBA trade deadline this Thursday?  All of us are wondering about Jimmy.  Should he stay or should we go?  Will he stay or will he go?  If you don’t already know my answer, here it is again.  He SHOULD definitely stay.  He should be the piece the Bulls build around, and truly get younger and more athletic.  Will he stay is a trickier question.  That of course asks us to get into the minds of GarPax, which is downright scary.

If the Bulls are offered a ton for Buckets, and I’m sure everybody’s definition of “ton” would differ, I think they will trade him.  They certainly would have to get more than the Kings got for Cousins.  I’m talking multiple 1st round picks AND some current young players.  I don’t think it should be done, I’m just saying everybody has a price, right?

Well, I think everybody ELSE should have a price on the Bulls.  Problem is, that price is low.  Trading anybody else but Jimmy will bring back nothing.  We’d be lucky to get a 1st round pick for anybody else on this roster.  Maybe a package deal?  Butler is the one true asset we have.

Don’t trade him!  I’m sticking with that.  I’m not GarPax though.  What will the Bulls do this week?  We will soon see.  We can start the trade watch now.  Counting down….

Lets back up a night to the disgrace that was the 3pt and slam dunk contests. I have not watched many in recent years, but this had to be one of the worst ever. The 3pt contest was ok, but nothing to brag about got sure. Nobody went off, nobody lit it up or went on some crazy run. The defending champ got knocked out first round…no curry, no harden. Bring back Hodges, please. Before we get to the horrible dunk contest, the nba tried raising money for sager’s foundation…wow, was that a bust. Multiple nba and others taking shots over 1 minute. Only 13 were made. Then, curry is called out to make a half court shot. He says he will do it in 3 tries. Try 3 to 4 times that many…all empty. What a letdown! What followe was even worse, the dunk contest. 4 no-name bums…yes, I consider deandre jordan a bum even if he is not a no-name. The amount of missed tries was crazy. How disappointing is that when a guy misses and has to try again, sometimes multiple tries? The dunks finally made were of the same variety, jumping over people or dunking after going between the legs. No regular type dunks…no real creativity. I would rather see guys do windmills, free throw line, double pumps, anything that they can make than what I saw that night. Judges seemed forced to give some 50s. Even after multiple misses with no makes, guys were given scores in the 30s…WTF!?! A complete bust in my opinion, and even more reason to miss these in future.
As for the all-star game…who cares! Saw maybe 2 minutes of it…just didnt want Buckets to get hurt. What a defensive struggle…hahaha, most combined points ever! Glad I missed just about all of it.
Goodluck pels with dcuz. Like the brow and hope he does good things, but I am not sure how dcuz is gonna help long term.
Finally, the Bulls and the trade deadline. Just keep Buckets. Trade whoever else you have to. Get some young guys who are warming other teams’ benches or draft picks…nothing else. Keep Jimmy in your pocket Bulls…better safe than sorry!
