February 17, 2019: Missing Bread

posted in: Blackhawks | 1

We knew it wouldn’t be easy, but man, Saturday’s game at the UC was an ugly one.  A 5-2 loss to the Blue Jackets was not what the doctor ordered.  Now, to get to 95 points, the Hawks will have to go 19-4.

It was good to see Bread Man back in the house; he sure made us pay.  2 goals, 3 total points, and joking around with Kane before the game started just to mess with us.  If you weren’t missing Bread before this game, you probably are now.  Like I said, I thought the trade was fine; I like Saad.  He’s been doing a lot better this year than last, but wow… Panarin looked good.  It would be great to have that additional firepower on offense; there’s no doubt about that.  Signing him would have to yield that result, since we’d still be lacking on defense.  Lots of young guys in the pipeline; can they hold the D down?

With each loss, the playoffs get further away.  Now 3 points out of the last spot with 5 teams battling for that last spot, you wonder what will be done at the trade deadline, if anything.  I finally looked it up; it’s February 25th.  Will the Hawks try to bolster the team down the stretch?  Will they be able to offload some of the high priced guys not performing?  Yes, those are the franchise icons we’re talking about; you OK with dumping them?  What about our goalie situation?  Crow is ready to come back, but how can we trust him?  He still has another year left on his deal after this one.  Ward is only a 1 year deal, so most likely he’ll be gone.  With each loss, I think more about the big picture.

Next up is Ottawa at home.  They are the worst team in the NHL.  It’s a Monday night game.  With my son on spring break this week, it’s an absolutely perfect game to go to; so we are.  It’ll be our first game, and most likely only game of the year that we’ll attend together; I do have tickets to another game later this year with my dad and brother.  He wasn’t that crazy about going; I’m sure he will be when we get there.  He made the comment about worrying about them losing… I told him they’ll probably win, but either way, win or lose, we’ll have a good time.  This whole winning and losing thing is really top of mind…  I hope I’m right, and Monday night will bring a victory.

Tickets were a good price; that’s one benefit of a tough season.  Guy I got them from said he’s been taking a bath on the tickets this year; I heard that from somebody else too.  I don’t doubt it, but come on, the past 9 years or so we’re very prosperous.  Although I enjoy the cheaper ticket prices, I do hope it’s a short term thing, and the Hawks get back in the mix again; they’re still trying to get there this year.  Hopefully they’ll be 2 points closer after Monday night.  Go Hawks!

Panarin makes the Bhawks pay. Year 2 without him, and he continues to excel with the jackets. Saad had a rough year 1 but has come on this year with 20+ goals. I am still fine with the trade. Yes, Kane and panarin had something special, but maybe it took away from everyone else because they played so well together. I like Saad and will ride it out with him, just like the Bhawks. As for goalie, who knows how Crow will be when he comes back. Ward and Delia have their moments, but it is the offense that has been carrying the Bhawks, led by the dynamic duo. If that continues and Crow comes back strong, watch out nhl, because the Bhawks will be in the playoffs. GO HAWKS!!!
