The Bulls haven’t given us many gifts this year. They haven’t been given many either. Thursday Night at the UC, the Bulls were given a gift… we were given a gift. And you know what, we’ll take it; after all, it is rude to refuse one, right?
I would have been furious had that call been made against my team. You don’t make that call when the game is on the line unless somebody gets absolutely mugged. Buckets didn’t get touched, let alone mugged, and the zebras threw us a bone. Like I said, we’ll take what we can get.
Trying to think of the last bone that was thrown the Bulls way. Not necessarily a bad call, but any break. Looking back, it’s been a pretty rough stretch for our Bulls, whether it’s bad general management, bad coaching, or bad breaks. The last gift that was thrown our way was when we won the draft lottery and got the #1 pick to select DRose. That was quite a break for us, and even that, turned out to be bad in the long run.
I’ve heard people say the curse of Jordan. Not winning one since he’s left… the way it all ended back after the 98 season… the split up of the dynasty… blame Reinsdorf? Sure why not. For the great franchise that the Bulls were, and the proud fans that we were and still are, the breaks have been few and far between. Although you know what they say… you need to make your own breaks.
As I was walking out of work Thursday night, I talked about this Bulls Celtics match up as being Butler against his future team. With all the trade talk happening, with the number of draft picks that Boston has, the situation both teams are in, the people in charge of the Bulls, I’m starting to think more and more that this will happen. I’m already on record with saying that I hope it does NOT happen. I think the Bulls can do whatever they want with anybody else on this team, players, coach, owners. But when it comes to Buckets, we should be building around him, not dumping him.

We know what we have in Jimmy. Is he everything? Like anybody, you can pick at certain flaws, but as a player on the court, he’s as good as it gets. Who coming out of college will we be able to say that about? Nobody. Although trading Butler would certainly signal a complete rebuild, it would certainly mean that the Bulls are taking steps backwards, and not forwards. Although maybe taking any kind of step would be better than just standing still and watching the rest of the NBA pass us up.
The draft is supposedly stacked this year; I don’t watch enough college bball to know that. Getting potentially 3 first round picks next year would be exciting, sure. But, let me remind you who will be doing the drafting? The same guys who’ve done it over the past number of years. The same guys who traded 2 number one picks for Dougie. I guess everybody has their price, but the thing with draft picks, is you don’t exactly know what you’re getting. With Butler, we know.
Yes, it was Butler that was the direct recipient of the gift last night. He made the 2 free throws to extend the Bulls winning streak at home on Thursday Night on TNT to 17 games in a row! That’s just insane. So not only do I wish we played the Raptors more, I wish we played every Thursday night at home on TNT. That sounds like a plan.
Until those happen, we wait to see what the Bulls brains will do, and believe me, I use the word “brains” lightly. Meanwhile, the Bulls continue to play 500 ball, will sneak into the playoffs, and will probably be ousted in the first round. The Bulls continue to live in NBA hell. Where would we be if we traded Jimmy?

Buckets and the Bulls definitely got a gift win, but they will take it. Closing out the first half with wins vs the rap and celts, 2 of the best in the east, should send the Bulls into the break on a high note. The first half has been a mess, but they are still right where we thought they would be, around .500 and in the playoffs. Can things get better, sure. Can they get worse, yes. What will the Bulls be, buyers, sellers, or neither? Buckets needs to stay. Anyone else can go for the right pieces in return. For me, the second half of the season goes pretty much like the first. Just above .500 with a playoff birth. Unfortunately, I do not see more than that, and that is the problem. The Bulls cannot do what we want them to do, win another title. 17 home wins in a row on tnt thursday games? Wow…damn impressive stat but pretty meaningless considering those games are few and far between. Rest up Bulls. We as fans should do the same. The second half looks to be more of the same.
