Seems like we’ve been over this before, but here we are again. Yes, it’s the 2022-2023 Chicago Bulls I’m talking about of course. Did you catch the game on Wednesday night in Indiana? If you didn’t, lucky you. If you did, like me, we can’t get those hours of our life back. It all started off OK, but isn’t that how many Bulls losses this year have started? And just like in Bulls fashion, in their historic performance, they still came up short. Yep, the 24 point lead the Bulls wasted was only the 2nd worst in the NBA this season; dammit. But if you look at the top 8 biggest blown leads, the Bulls are the only team with more than one; heck, they have 3 of them!!! That’s more like it!
The Pacers looked like a worse Bulls team. They came out with no energy, playing horrible defense; stop me if this sounds familiar. The Bulls on the other hand came out like gangbusters; they do this from time to time, but once this happens, we just know it won’t last. I asked my son if he thought the Pacers would come back from this early deficit; he said yes. He was right. This time was uglier than the last blown lead vs them. I think each time it happens, it just gets, and feels, worse. Have we bottomed out? The Bulls are on a 5 game losing streak, they’re sitting out of the playoffs at the 11th seed, and we’re just coming out of the trade deadline being 1 of only 2 teams that did nothing, absolutely nothing. I ask again: is this rock bottom?
Well, let’s not sell this team short; we still have 24 games to show our stuff this year, including 1 more before the All Star break against Milwaukee at the UC on Thursday night. We can blow a bigger lead… we CAN blow a bigger lead!!! There’s something else that can help top this year off, and that’s just coming out and telling us officially, what we unofficially know already, and that is, that Lonzo Ball is out for the year. If we had any hope of him coming back, after the All Star break, before the playoffs, just wipe that out at this point too. No need in feeding into some of our delusions; just end it. There is of course Russell Westbrook and/or Patrick Beverley. Hey, at this point, I really don’t care. I say bring in anybody and everybody because it certainly can’t have a more negative impact on this team that we’re not already experiencing. Shit, let’s see if BJ Armstrong is still available; maybe Pete Meyers?
Yeah, this year continues to feel like a lost year; what a big disappointment that would be. But maybe Russ comes in, and gives us that spark needed to squeak into the playoffs only to be eliminated in the first round; at least we’d keep our playoff streak alive…haha. Ah, fun times to be a Bulls fan, fun times let me tell you. But it’s because of all this that I just talked about and more, that you know what, I think they’re going to beat the Bucks on Thursday, because that’s just what these Bulls do… go figure.
