On this Valentine’s Day, I’m thinking of the letter V. Do you remember that show “V”? I was a kid when this came out on TV; I remember being pretty freaked out by it. I should go back and check out that miniseries. It was science fiction I believe, with aliens and stuff; my dad was into that, so that’s probably how it came across our TV. The other day we were flipping around and ended up on a St. Valentine’s Day Massacre movie. It had to be from the 60s or something, really old. We watched a few minutes of it. The guy playing Capone really didn’t do it justice; we kept flipping. I think about another Valentine on this day; remember Denzel? Haha… this guy. He legit thought he was Curry. He’d pull up from way behind the three point line and chuck a shot up; it was cringe worthy for sure. Although, he did bring us a championship… a Summer League Championship that is, when he banked in a 3 pointer for the win years back. Any other Valentine’s comes to mind? How about Bobby, ex-manager of the Mets? Or Ellis… another ex-Met. I only remember him because of collecting baseball cards; that’s how I know a lot of random baseball guys from the 80s.
Who else? Victor Cruz, WR from the Giants that used to salsa dance after catching a TD. Victor Martinez, catcher from the Indians; he was a pretty good fantasy baseball player. Gary Varsho… there’s an random ex-Cubs player for you; you may know his son Daulton who is in the league today. How about some Vinny’s? Vinny Testaverde from The U, was QB with the Bucs for starters. Vinny Castilla… baseball player from the Rockies. Of course, there’s Vinnie Barbarino, who has nothing to do with sports. How about My Cousin Vinny!?! Vince Coleman, now there’s a blast from the past. One of the fastest guys I ever remember see play the game. Vince Vaughn… another guy nothing necessarily to do with sports unless you count his character in The Breakup; I’d rather remember him from Swingers though. Of course, V also stands for Victory; where was that from, Entourage? Great show.
As far as the day itself, I remember the little Valentine’s we used to pass out in grammar school; there were those heart candies with the little messages on there. Today, my son and his classmates only pass out little treats, etc; no exchanging of “valentine’s” I guess… What did I do? Well, I forgot to send my Mom a card; my wife and I decided not to exchange cards. I did talk to my Mom; I also texted my sister. My wife and I spent half the day in a car dealership… how romantic. We did have a nice little seafood feast in the evening, celebrating with my son, watching our show the Tournament of Champions on Food Network. Yeah, I also picked up some flowers; my son made us some cards. It was kind of quiet, simple, laid back; no real money dropped on this holiday… haha, unless you count the car note… haha. We have a few more “holidays” coming up that will fit that bill. Until then, let’s vamoose back to our regularly scheduled blogging…
