February 14, 2017: The Team That Keeps On Giving

posted in: Bulls | 1

I’m not talking about the Bulls.  They would be the team that keeps on giving me headaches.  No, I’m talking about their opponent on this Valentine’s Day 2017.  We have now beaten the Toronto Raptors 11 straight times.

I love obscure stats, and @ckamka always brings it on Twitter.  The last time the Bulls lost to the Raptors on New Year’s Eve 2013, Luol Deng was the Bulls leading scorer.  I miss Luol.

But back to that team… the Raptors… thank you!  For being one of the better teams in the East, you certainly haven’t shown that against us.  I guess it’s just having a team’s number.  Too bad the Bulls didn’t have more numbers in that rolodex.

I thought they’d lose.  No, not because Wade was out… who cares?  Because that’s what the Bulls do.  Although maybe I should have known better… it’s every time when we think the Bulls will not win a game, that they surprise us, and win one.  Are you ready for another surprise on Thursday night at the UC against the Celts?

Like I always say, I’m happy with any win.  I didn’t really watch much of this one.  I saw the big lead… I saw the lead shrink late, and thought… we’ve seen this before.  But no, the Bulls didn’t blow it.  They held on, and got the win.

Butler played a gutty game.  Not at 100%, he got on the court, and did what he had to do.  This is one of the reasons I love Jimmy.  I hope he doesn’t play in the ASG and gets some rest.  I just hope he doesn’t get traded to the Celtics…

The Raptors made a big move before the game acquiring Serge Ibaka.  With the announcement of KLove out for 6 weeks, maybe teams feel like they have more of a chance in the East?  Will that prompt the Celts to make a bigger push for Buckets?  One thing is sure after that Raptors trade, is that Taj will not be playing north of the border.  He was rumored to be going there, and supposedly the Bulls were in last minute negotiations with Toronto before they went another route.  Supposedly the Bulls are in the running to get Okafor from the Sixers.  I really don’t know what to believe when it comes to the Bulls front office.

Besides the Butler draft pick, who else on this team can we thank the front office for?  Yes, I won’t go any further before thanking them for Taj.  He had a nice game tonight… I’m glad he wasn’t traded yet, although I think it’s only a matter of time for him.  It’ll be just like losing Deng and Noah… it’ll be tough to see another one of Thibs’ guys go.  But it’s not hard to understand why.  Thibs is no longer here, plus Taj would be an attractive piece for teams wanting to add… one of the more attractive short term pieces the Bulls have to offer.  I only wish he could stay with Jimmy, and the Bulls somehow found a way to turn this around ASAP.  That’s wishful thinking.

The Bulls front office hasn’t given us much lately; they seem to only give away.  Who will be the next Bull to go?  It’s anyone’s guess.

The Bulls are definitely in the raps’ heads. 11 in a row…wow! Pretty impressive considering the raps are usually the 2nd or 3rd best team in the east. Not sure why, but that is how things go sometimes. The Bulls have their number and continue to beat them. Maybe it is time for the Bulls to go on a run. Win tonight vs the celtics, playing a back to back, and that would be 2 quality wins in a row. Beat the teams they should, and the Bulls can solidify their playoff spot. Who will be around if that happens, we shall see. The “brains” of the team will keep us guessing. No guessing when it comes to the Bulls and raps, though. Time to streak Bulls!
