February 13, 2017: Hockey Bye Week

posted in: Blackhawks | 1

Really?  Since when?  I think this is the first hockey bye week ever, and it couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Hawks.

We’re red hot.  4 in a row on the road!  And now a week off?  I guess I don’t follow the NHL rule changes that closely.

What gives here?  From what I’m gathering, every team will get a different week off during the season.  How that was determined, not sure.  I guess it made sense for the Hawks… to get this time off after a long road trip.  I guess we should be happy about this.

I guess I am.  Any rest is a good thing, especially for teams that normally play in the postseason… and at times, very deep into the postseason.  I used to be OK when somebody would get hurt (not seriously), and get that extra time off before the postseason to get rested.  Any extra gas in the tank come that time of year is critical.  This bye week is helpful in that regard.

It’s helpful for all teams then; I guess that’s the point.  Although any team that won’t make the playoffs, really doesn’t care.  Although as of right now, most teams in either conference are in the playoff hunt.  There are only a couple that have truly no chance.  Everybody else could potentially get in.  So, giving some extra oompf for the stretch run is a good thing.

And that, my friend, cialis price find out my downtownsault.org now is what all the fuss is about. In fact, I’m glad the Hawks got it when they did.  It’s not perfect considering the winning streak we’re on, but the later in the year the better.  Heck, this is only a week or so after the all star break.  I wonder when the earliest and latest bye weeks were…  I’m sure I could find out, but I’m not going to.

Honestly, this blog feels like just a filler.  There was nothing going on Monday night in Chicago sports, and who the heck wants to talk about the Bulls?  I do kind of miss the Blackhawks, and honestly, I hadn’t heard about this whole bye week thing until now.  This was only reserved for football up until this point.

I remember when the bye week first came around in football, at least I think I do.  That was when the Super Bowl started getting pushed later and later; there was another week delay added somewhere in there, and now the game is in February.  Kind of like the end of the World Series creeping into November.  I don’t think this pushes the end of the hockey season out any further, although I could be wrong.

Change is always greeted with some type of disapproval, but change is inevitable.  Sometimes it is forced upon us, and sometimes, we probably should force it upon ourselves.  Not all change is good, but it’s good to try new things in an attempt to make something better.  If it doesn’t work, then you should be able to go back to how it was… and not continue the mistake, like Thursday Night Football for example.

If the players like it, and the fans like it, and it’s good for the game, then that’s what it should be about.  Well, if it’s good for folks’ pocket books, I’m sure that’s a factor too.  It’s great when that change is a win win win.  Will this hockey bye week last?  Who cares… I miss the Blackhawks.

Never remember a hockey bye week…must be something new this year. The Bhawks were playing some great hockey and now a week off. At the end of the day, I suppose the rest is better than streaking before the playoffs. Guys are always banged up and some did not get the all-star break off. So a week of rest will help in the long term. The Bhawks should be ready for another Cup run. Will they pull the trigger at the deadline or stay put? Either way works, as long as they dont have to give up to much to get somebody. Enjoy the rest and get ready to keep the streak going!
