So I actually was looking forward to watching All-Star Saturday night. Usually not too interested, I watched the entire affair. It was pretty cool.
I wasn’t my crap talking self…for the most part…and tried to sit back and watch this entertainment. No Bulls were involved, so that sucked, but really…which Bull would be involved? Besides Butler who was sitting in the stands for this one, there’s really nobody else. OK, Rose in the skills competition maybe. But maybe he’d get to the end and just start chucking up bricks from the 3 point stripe. The rookie from Minnesota, Towns, took that home. He’s actually an impressive rookie. He’s played well against the Bulls in the games that I’ve watched.
I’m not as up on the NBA as I usually am, since I don’t play fantasy basketball any more. No need to know what every single player on every single team is doing. So when the 3 point competition rolled around, I was unfamiliar with some names. Booker from the Suns and CJ from the Blazers were both guys I wasn’t familiar with. They tied for 3rd in the first round with Harden and Reddick, which led to a shootout to see who would advance to the final round; that was cool. Booker advanced. The other two guys I did know. The Splash Brothers as they call them, and it came down to them. Curry had 24 I think when Klay stepped up. He ended with 27, needing the entire last rack to get there. That was exciting. I like the 3 point contest, and I don’t mind the Warrirors…really…I just don’t want them to win 72.

The dunk contest was next, and the judges blew it. They gave it to the guy from last year, when this kid Aaron Gordon, another guy I was unfamiliar with, threw down some impressive dunks. It actually was a pretty good showdown. They went into OT with like 5-6 dunks each in that final round. It will go down as one of the best battles in dunk history; only if MJ and Dominique could have threw down a few more dunks each back in 88. That was one that I didn’t want to end.
This all-star night even beat out the Hawks, although I did catch the end of the losing effort. Mainly, I think I was excited for my son to watch this stuff. Basketball being his favorite thing to do right now, I thought he’d enjoy it. He did. We were playing through the night too, with me feeding him alley-oop passes, which we’re perfecting, then proceeding to the arcade style basketball game in our hallway for our own three point shootout; my wife won.
A fun night overall. Besides the couple LeBron and State Farm commercials, I didn’t talk too much crap. I sat back for a night and tried to be a fan and enjoy. I tried to remember how I looked forward to this weekend in the past. Growing up, it was always fun; it helped to have MJ involved with everything. Hodges and Kerr held their own in the 3 point contest too. I’d watch the actual game back then too; that I won’t do…well, maybe I’ll throw it on. I really don’t care that this is Kobe’s last all star game, and am not interested in seeing a game filled with no defense and no real caring about who wins. They’ll feed Kobe the ball to get him MVP; no thanks. See there I go…talking crap. I should just sit back and enjoy it like I used to. I should just view it as entertainment, like it really is. I should just watch for my son’s enjoyment and tell him how MJ used to be the star of stars. Yeah, maybe that’s what I’ll do.

Didnt watch any of it live except the slam dunk finals…what a show! Gordon was robbed even though lavine did have some sweet dunks. Seemed like a big win for the nba this year!
Just saw the replay of towns beating thomas in the skills final…neither could hit a trey.
Missed the 3 point contest…too bad, would have liked to see the splash bros go head2head. Hopefully, they shot themselves off of the Bulls record!
