OK, let’s give this NFL season one more goodbye before we move on. It was another exciting year in the land of the kings, the National Football League. They remain the undisputed king of all sports in this country; nothing that happened this year changed that. In fact, the legend only grows. And, they gave everybody, well most of us, exactly what we wanted to see to top off the season: the Chiefs getting their asses kicked. All year long, they were eeking out victories, getting help from the zebras, showing up in every other commercial during the games… it was enough to make any non-Chiefs fan throw up in their mouth. It was all made good watching them get demolished on Super Bowl Sunday by the Philadelphia Eagles. Yet, I still found a way to be upset with them…
The score was 40-6; I was sitting with a 0-3 square for the final score in the bigger of the three pools I was in. When KC drove down and scored a TD, I got excited. Surely they would just kick the PAT; the game was well over. Well, not so fast my friend. The Chiefs went for two and eliminated me from partaking in any moneys paid out on the squares; I never win in those. But my story isn’t the worst… My buddy from work had a 0-4 square for the final, which was what the score sat at after the Chiefs converted the 2 point attempt. Start spending that money, right? Not so fast my friend. The Eagles, with their backup QB, decided to go for it on 4th down; if they got it, it was officially over. They didn’t, and gave the Chiefs the ball at midfield. Mahomes uncorked a 50 yard TD pass on the first play; that one had to hurt. That one was for a lot more money than what I was talking about… Maybe the worst best of the day was by one bettor who wagered a pretty hefty amount on the Chiefs to have one made extra point… There is no such thing as a lock, just remember.
I didn’t have a play on the side; I made a few bucks in the prop world. It didn’t matter though. Typically, I would have been bored with a blowout, but not in this case. Who were you more sick of, the Patriots or the Chiefs? My buddy said the Chiefs, which makes sense since he’s a die hard Raiders fan, although… there was the whole tuck rule thing… But yeah, he hopes they ride out into the sunset; Kelce retires maybe. Reid hang it up. Let someone else win the AFC West. Let this reign of terror be over. I’m not so sure about all of that, but certainly don’t think the Chiefs will get as fortunate heading into next season, with all those close wins. Not saying they still won’t be a force to reckon with come the postseason, but maybe they won’t be at home in Arrowhead… as if that’s made a huge difference during this run. I’m ready for a new Super Bowl champ, maybe a certain team from the NFC… from the North… previously coached by a certain Coach Ditka… polish sausage, polish sausage, Bears, Super Bowl…
