February 1, 2017: The Big Game

The big game is almost here. Falcons vs Patriots…who you got?

It’s tough to go against the Pats.  In the 7th Super Bowl appearance of the Bill and Tom era, they’re looking for their 5th trophy.  4-2 in the past 6, but undefeated against teams from the NFC not named the Giants, it makes me sick. It makes me sick how many Super Bowls they’ve played in. For that reason alone, I hate them.

Yes, winning the game would mean Tom Brady would become the first QB with 5.  That may give him the final trump (not Donald) card in the all time QB debate.  He may be the greatest ever now.  Yet, I don’t really hate Brady specifically. I still don’t want him to win another, but it’s more about the Patriots success…and how they’ve done it.

Not only through great coaching, great QBing, great drafting…no, I guess that’s not enough. The cheating that is tied to this franchise taints them in my opinion. The tuck rule BS, the stealing of the game plans, deflategate…thought there was another. The perception that they haven’t played the game fairly, gives me another reason to hate them. I guess cheaters do win.

That’s not a good story to tell. Yes, they’ve won a lot already…too much. And to think, I was rooting for them against the Rams way back when. I didn’t have any hard feelings towards them. After all, our only direct contact with the Pats at that point was the thrashing in Super Bowl XX. You knew I had to slip that in there.

I was talking to a huge Pats fan from out east.  I brought up 1986; she still remembered that beat down.  But since then, it’s been a big fat zero for us, and 4 wins for the Pats.  I mean, Brady has won more playoff games than the Bears have played in. Is this turning into a Hate File?

Let’s focus on the game at hand. What about their opponent?  They’re not named the Giants. Are we destined to see Goodell hand over the trophy to Tom?  I think the Falcons have a good chance.

Vegas started the game as a pick’em.  Had to know it wasn’t going to stay there. Had to know the money would be coming in on the Pats.  If Vegas knows something, if they knew they’d get a ton of Patriots money, you’d think the line would have started at -3…not end up there after all those bets. And you’d think that if Vegas knew that would happen, that they’d get all that money on the Pats, and considering this is the biggest fixed game of the year, you don’t think Papa Vegas is going to take a hit on this game, do you?

Yeah, the conspiracy angle rears its head. You think Goodell wants to give that trophy to Tom?  Maybe that’s all smoke and mirrors, leading to this very moment. Maybe Trump makes a call to Papa Vegas. Maybe this angle blows up in Falcons backers’ faces.

But what about the game on the field. Pats defense is ranked better than the Falcons, although the Falcons do have the sacks and turnovers. Shocking how the Steelers were throttled.  Bell was hurt though. Shocking and fricking awesome how the Falcons spanked the Packers. That Falcons offense is no slouch. If they could run the ball, watch out. There’s no Gronk for the Pats, but are you ready to see Marty help Tom win his 5th?

I’m not. With all the evidence presented in this case, none more important than the Patriots hate, the love of the Falcons for the Packer beat down, and the fact that I’ll have zero real money riding in this game,   I say take the Falcons +3 to the bank.

I’m happy to watch the game. If it was Pack Pats, oh man…don’t think I would have watched it. Kind of like the Pats Seahawks and Pack Steelers bowls;  watched very little of those two. No, this year I’ll be tuned in just like last year.  Hoping for a great game. Hoping for a Falcons victory. Hoping to win on those free squares I’m in. Happy to have the following Monday off. Super Bowl 51, or really LI, is almost here. Have fun with it.

Final Score: ATL 34 PAT 31

High scoring game J Jones is going to smoke the PATs but T Brady will have an answer. Game will come down to a missed FG.

Enjoy the NFL Holiday and win big!

I hope the big game is a back and forth shootout. I want it to be a good game. I dont like the pats, but I do like Brady and would not mind him winning #5. I like Matty Ice and Julio, plus they get some bonus points for smackin the cheese. So really, I guess I dont care who wins. That might change as the game goes on. My gut feel says the game pushes…gostkowski hits a 40+ game winner…wonder what the odds are for a push. Vegas has been taking a beating in the nfl playoffs, though. So maybe they cash in on this game? A big call here or there to swing things? Im calling a 44-41 shootout with Brady getting #5.
