When the Bulls travelled to San Antonio on Friday night, I felt pretty good; they had won 3 games in a row over the Bucks, Pelicans, and Hornets respectively. However, those 3 games were all at home. Heading into the matchup vs the Spurs, the Bulls had won just 1 road game; I was a little concerned about that. As the game began, and the Spurs started off on fire, it looked like my concern was warranted. The Spurs lead at the half by 11 points. The Bulls were well on their way to losing their 9th out of 10 games on the road. But, this isn’t the same old Bulls team… The Bulls outscored the Spurs by 20 points in the 2nd half and came away with a 9 point victory. Very nice…
Woo hoo… we beat the worst team in the NBA! Hold on, the Spurs are the 2nd worst team in the NBA, so there. And yes, the last team we beat was the Hornets who currently have a worst record than us. And the Pelicans… they sit 1 game above 500 today. But we did beat Milwaukee… Yeah, the Bulls current winning streak of four in a row isn’t over the best of the best in the NBA, but I don’t care. If you’ve watched this Bulls team over the past few years like I have, this streak DOES mean something. First off, they look… happier. Maybe it’s just me, but they look like they’re having fun again. Yes, winning does help that, but I see a lot of smiles; the team seems looser. One guy who I’ve seen look different than he ever has is Patrick Williams. He’s shown us flashes before… very inconsistent flashes… but he’s looked different. He seems really engaged. He looks focused. I’ve seen him get angry; I’ve seen him get happy. He’s showing emotions and playing with them. He looks like a player who wants to prove that he is NOT a bust. Keep it coming PWill. Of course, there’s Coby. That dude has been on fire. His confidence is sky high. He’s set a Chicago Bulls franchise record with 47 treys in the past 10 games, including 10 straight games with 3 or more 3 pointers made. I like it… a lot. With Coby and PWill playing this way, the Bulls have been surging.
It’s funny that I have not mentioned the “big 3”. When I looked at the Bulls roster, essentially the same as last year, coming into this season, I liked the pieces. Heck, even the new guy Torrey Craig had himself a night in San Antonio. I liked Coby, PWill, Ayo, and obviously Caruso, who left the game unfortunately. Craig and Javon Carter were fine additions. My problem has always been with the top of the roster, but… let’s keep it positive today… while we still can.
The next handful of games for the Bulls will tell us a little bit more about this new Zach-less team. The Bucks, Nuggets, Heat x2, Sixers, and Lakers before we welcome the Spurs to Chicago. How many games will the Bulls win during this upcoming 6 game stretch? If they went 500, I’d be happy. Anything more than that would be gravy. And don’t look now, but the Bulls sit one game out of the 10th spot in the East, which would get us… another play-in game. I don’t care about that right now. Watching the Bulls has been fun again, and I’m going to enjoy it for as long as I can. Let’s keep it going boys. Go Bulls!
