My son likes lions… he likes bears too. In one of the best animal match ups of the week, our Bears travel up to the fine city of Detroit for a week 14 game with the first place Lions. Yes, first place Lions. By 2 games this late in the season!?! They’re bound to blow it.
But more than that, it shows how the projected mighty NFC North was pretty weak this year. For the Lions to be in first place, you know that must be true. The Packers are 6-6… the one bright spot to the NFL season this year. The Vikings… 6-6. I remember when they were undefeated and they flashed a stat about their defense comparing it to the 85 Bears…. silly ESPN. And the Bears…. yeah, only if they had their shit together.
Detroit is a touchdown favorite in this one. I like the Bears again. First off, the Bears are 2-1 in this weak ass division. Yes, all 2 of their victories against teams not called the 49ers have come against division foes. That’s 3 of the last 4 games this season. It would be like the Bears to win out in a season like this and totally screw our draft position. But, regardless of record, it is a divisional game. They are usually played pretty closely, or at least that’s the feeling. Do you remember the first Bears Lions game this year? I know, it was one of the worst, ugliest games I’ve ever watched… we can never get those 3 hours back, but… they won. Can they do it again?
Trying for their first winning streak of the season, I’m sure when you see those analyst picks across the networks, they will come up all Lions. Why give the Bears a chance in this one? Why give them any credit for a win over their horrible 49ers? Well, I already gave you a couple reasons.
The Lions always choke it away, and it’s about that time to see them crumble. A loss at home to the hapless Bears is par for the course. Unfortunately, if they lose and the Packers win… yeah, you see where I’m going here. I actually hope the Lions hold on; don’t let those Packers win the division. It’s just… we’ve seen this movie before.
The fact that it’s a divisional game. The fact that the Bears are coming off a win. You know how good it feels to win? Take Cleveland for example. I heard something on the radio that tripped me out. They haven’t won in 365 days… preseason or regular season. They haven’t won in a full calendar year!!! That sucks. At least we always have the Browns to make us feel good about ourselves.
But more reasons… the Bears defense. Yes, I know last week was against Colin and his hapless crew, but they’ve been pretty decent in this train wreck of a season. They are respectable. If you buy into the rankings at all, I believe they are 7th in the NFL. So, yeah, I think the defense will play well. They have nothing to lose. There is something to be said for that. Nobody expects much at this point. They are young. I believe it enough to have picked up the Bears defense in my fantasy league playoffs; yep, I always favor the heart over the head.

Finally, Jordan Howard. Rookie of the year if not for the Dallas Cowboys offensive line. He’s the biggest bright spot this year. He’s been a nice surprise after Langford completely fell off the face of the planet. Now only if Howard could catch the ball…. Heck, he had a problem with a toss last week. Something to work on in the offseason for sure, but for now, let him loose Dowell… let him run wild!
Final Score Prediction
Bears 17 Lions 14
Ace in the Hole
Jordan Howard 100 yds 1 TD (Bears defense gets the other TD)
Yes, the Bears will try their best this week to ruin our draft position. But to be part of the Lions collapse this year, and to actually win another game, may make it all worth it. Bear Down!

Well, another after the fact pick here, but I liked the Bears to cover this game but not win. That is exactly what happened, and just like in their previous losses, the Bears had the ball with a chance to win or tie and could not get it done. Will save more postgame comments for that blog, but I would love to see the lions win the division and the pack to fall short of the playoffs…Bears, you can play a part in that. Top 4 pick still lined up!
