December 8, 2022: Now or Never

I’ve been getting so many people reaching out to me, asking me to write more about my fantasy teams; nah, I’m just kidding, but… I’m going to do it anyways. We are entering the final week of the season, before playoffs, for some of us, so… let’s see where we’re at.

Let’s start with my oldest league, the auction league. It is insanely close; I don’t think I’ve ever seen this before. It wasn’t until I won last week, moving into FIRST place, that I clinched a playoff spot; I’m the ONLY team to have clinched a playoff spot. The next 5 teams behind me, are all tied… only a half a game out!!! Because of that, I need to get the W in this last week. Yes, I may be in the playoffs, but finishing first in the regular season would bring some money, AND if I can outscore the team with the most points by 26 points, I would win most points too! Come on… I’m looking pretty good too, depending on how much stock you put in predictions. I put some stock in them, but certainly don’t live and die by them. A 72% chance to win though? That’s pretty good. Worst case, I’m still in the playoffs though..

The keeper league is a bit different. I’m tied for the 6th and final playoff spot, and need some help getting in. I need to win AND have either the 5th or 6th place team lose; if it’s the 5th place team’s loss that I need, I also need to outscore them by a measly 3 points; it’s doable! A couple weeks ago, I was thinking like the Bears; if I lost out, my draft pick for next year would be really good… haha. Now, because of my current 2 game winning streak, I may sneak in the playoffs, but… once you get in, anything can happen, so… very happy about this development.

The family league is already determined; I’m in. The only thing that is undecided is where I will finish. It’ll be either 4, 5, or 6 pending results this final week. The first place team? My son. After starting his rookie season, last year, 0-5, he has bounced back to lead the league, pretty much from wire to wire. There was a week or two when he wasn’t in first, but other than that, it’s been lonely at the top for him. His current 7 game winning streak may have something to do with it. He’s hyped up. He’s locked up the #1 seed and first week bye. I’ve been trying to prep him for the pitfalls of the one and done playoffs though. I don’t want him to lose, but one bad week, one bad break, and you’re out. I tell him the story of my championship game back in the day, where my QB Tony Romo, got injured in the first series, which cost me the title… brutal. Crazy stuff always seems to happen in the playoffs; hopefully the #1 seed can finish the job, but if we can’t, I’ll be here, more than happy to repeat… haha.

It’s been a fun year, and with the Bears zeroed in on next year’s draft, one of the things that has kept this NFL season going strong. That being said, I’ll be watching closely this week, the Bears bye week, as well as, the next 3 weeks, the fantasy postseason. Hope you got in too! Let’s go!!!
