There were 2 big matchups that took place on Saturday night. The Bulls were hosting the NBA’s best team in the Golden State Warriors, while the Blackhawks headed on the road to Nashville with 1st place in the Central on the line. One team is ready now, while the other team was not.
I wasn’t able to watch any of either game. I caught a little of the first period on the radio, and checked my phone for Bulls game updates. I usually never record games that I’m going to miss, but I set the DVR up to record the Bulls game, NOT the Hawks game. It’s almost impossible to NOT know the results of the game that’s going on. After finding out the result, I didn’t watch it. Why would I want to watch one of my teams lose? That would be hard to watch knowing already… already knowing that there is no hope. It’s hard for me to turn off a game that I AM watching when they’re down, because I always keep hope for a comeback. That would not be the problem in this case. It would be nice to fast forward through the commercials, and to see the details of the loss for myself, but that wasn’t enough to make me watch it. I started watching the Hawks replay late night before passing out… at least I knew the outcome of that game was a good one.
Listening to the radio during the first period, I heard that there were about 50% Hawks fans at the game IN Nashville. That’s pretty amazing. It’s not like Nashville is around the corner. About a 7 hour drive from here! We all know we travel well, and out in California there are so many Chicago transplants that no travel is necessary, but Nashville?!? That’s pretty fricking cool. The Hawks snatched their 6th in a row, and continued their ascent to the top of the NHL in the standings. This team that started off this season like they started off the Kings series that ended last year has it running on all cylinders. Crow, Raanta, Darling… does it matter who’s in goal at this point? Well, it may next year… trying to get under that cap, but for now, it’s a nice problem to have. Similar to the Cubs middle infield wealth, the Hawks wealth in goal will most likely lead to a trade at some point. Now, they’re all chipping in for the current Central Division leading Hawks.

Did Steve Kerr make that much of a difference? We all know that team is talented, but are they really THAT good? Well, only time will tell, but I just knew that we would take them out in our house. We haven’t played that many games at home, and have struggled in the ones we did, but I knew the Bulls would step up and smack this team like we usually do IN Chicago. I was disappointed with the results. One of the lead stories about the Bulls game was Derrick Rose’s choice of pre-game attire…
I thought about this for a while, whether I liked it or not. Here’s my take. At the end of the day, it’s up to that athlete, in this case, DRose on what we wants to “represent”. Regardless of your opinion in the matter he was representing, Rose chose to bring attention to himself, and for that reason, I don’t like it. It’s about team out there, the Bulls. Specifically for Rose, here’s a guy who’s been embattled; we know his story. Injured for 2 years, injured early this season…. just now finally getting on the floor consistently. I would love to see Rose continue to focus on that… staying on the floor… contributing to the team… figuring out a way to get better. He chose to bring attention to himself for another reason. The one thing about it was his team’s continued support for all of his actions, especially Jo. That’s a good thing. I just don’t want Rose to cause a distraction and hinder this team, because at the end of the day, playing for the Bulls right now, and winning an NBA championship should be #1. From the looks of it Saturday night, Rose and the Bulls have some work to do.
And Sunday rolls around, and there’s no Bears again. There won’t be Bears after 3 weeks anyways, so we better get used to it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it many more times… thank God for the Bulls and Blackhawks. Without them, especially coming off this Bears season, I don’t know what the hell I’d do… So I’ll take the mixed bag, kind of like those mixed nuts at the early Christmas party I attended last night, and enjoy every bit of it…
