I’m happy that the Bears have been winning. I’m still disappointed in the season thus far. I still believe this season will end without a postseason appearance. Are we still able to get joy from this season? Maybe it’s time to reassess…
I was ready to rank this season as one of the most disappointing in Bears history. Again, with the Super Bowl or bust expectations heading into this season, worst case, I certainly did not see this ‘bust’ equal missing the playoffs. Making it to the postseason, coming up short, I guess I could have lived with that. Not making them altogether, I can’t see any way to consider this season good. But, maybe my expectations were unrealistic. Maybe it was too much to expect the Bears to follow up their great season with another. Maybe last year was our year, and we blew it. We did blow it, but I hoped it would propel this team to achieve greater things this year. I was wrong.
Ok, let’s say the Bears end up finishing 9-7. Is the fact that they turned in a winning season any consolation? Is there good to be drawn from it? Is there hope for next year? What is the silver lining?

Now I’m trying to rationalize this season; it’s like a natural reaction for me. I try to make the best of any situation, whether it’s dealing with a rough season for one of my teams, or dealing with some challenges in my life. It’s hard to keep me down on any one thing for too long. I’ll tell you what would help me even more: beating the Packers.
Sure, that doesn’t guarantee playoffs either, but it would be nice to get a little payback for game one. Plus it’s always good to beat the Pack. In the lean years, that’s all we hoped for: 2-14 with those wins coming against the cheese. This year, even if the playoffs are out, beating the Packers is always fun. That would help me rationalize this season even further. That would probably give me hope for the last two games of the year. Even though we need help, 10-6 sounds a whole lot better than 9-7. Although at the end of the day, without some serious help, it will still equal the same thing.
I’ve been wearing my Bears ski cap again. The Bulls, Blackhawks, and 2016 Cubs hats will get their turn. The flag is still flying in front of my house. Regardless of the result, expectations or not, winning or losing, there is only one team for me. The gift and the curse maybe; Bear Down!!!
