December 6, 2018: Constant Digging

posted in: Blackhawks | 0

We’ve seen the Blackhawks do this over the years: fall behind.  Whether it was in an individual game or a playoff series, the Blackhawks would start off in a hole; we were always confident regardless.  Well, those days are long gone.  One thing that has certainly changed over the years is the Hawks ability to dig out of that hole to win.  Constantly falling behind, constantly putting ourselves behind the 8 ball, causing constant digging, trying to cut the lead, trying to get even, trying to win.  This team is simply not good enough to do that on a consistent basis.  So it should come as no surprise what the Blackhawks record is over the past 8 games, all of these games with the opponent scoring first; yep, 1-7.  Care to guess how the game in Vegas started off on this Thursday night?

Like many of the past handful of games, the Hawks were down in a heartbeat.  It’s not just that we’ve been falling behind early, it’s happened almost immediately.  And it’s not just 1-0…it’s 2-0; this happened against Vegas tonight.  Vegas was part of that list of previous 8 games; they creamed us at the UC 8-3.  Going into the rematch, I had a good feeling about the Hawks.  Why?

Well, even though they’ve fallen behind consistently, they’ve showed effort in attempting to comeback, even if it hasn’t been successful.  I’d like to think this team still has some pride.  It’s been a tough, tough stretch; it’s not going to get any easier.  But we need to find a way.  We need to dig deep.  Will they be able to pull off the victory against last year’s Western Conference representative in the Stanley Cup Finals?

After two periods, we sit tied at 2.  Toews with a nice goal off their goalie’s back, and then Strome with a tough angle goal to tie it.  Kane has missed some good opportunities; he needs to cash in on those.  Crow has been keeping us in this one; don’t really blame him for any of this, although he hasn’t been his best either.  Anisimov!  First lead in 9 games said Foley?!?!  Nice steal that lead to the tally, making up for his early penalty which lead to the early deficit.  Now with 12 minutes left, can we hold the lead?  And like that, the lead is gone…  2 goals within 12 seconds gives the Knights the lead.  That was quick; that’s the 2018-2019 Blackhawks.  ZZZZZZZZZZ…. I passed out; I woke up to Blackhawks post game show, and saw that the score when I knocked out stood the same; another loss, this time 4-3.  Hey, it’s better than 8-3!

I feel like the tables have been turned on our guys.  We’re usually the ones that can exert our will on other teams.  Not necessarily playing with them, but turning it on when we had to, and being good enough for that to work.  Now, it’s the complete opposite.  Teams come out, jump on us, let up a bit, we come back a little, then they turn it on and we’re done.  The only thing I don’t get, is why this seems to be the scenario with every other team we play!  My how the mighty have fallen.  Keep grinding boys; I know we’re not this bad.  Go Hawks!
