December 5, 2020: The Beat Goes On

First Theo, then Lester, Kyle, Almora, and now Len Kasper. Nobody is safe from the Cubs offseason from hell. But hey, the beat goes on right? Will we miss each of those guys? Sure. Will the Cubs still take the field in 2021? Sure. Will I still be rooting for them? Of course. Next.

As far as Len goes, more than anything, I was pissed off with Marquee. No matter what good guy Len says, or the message coming from the top at Marquee, like Dale & Brennan and the divorce of their parents in Step Brothers, it was 100% your fault Marquee. I wasn’t that crazy about Len when he first starting doing games for the Cubs, but he grew on me. I really started appreciating him, really enjoying his love for the game… enjoying the home town call for our Cubbies. He strikes me as a baseball purist, which gives you a big clue on why he left for another gig. I already shared my feelings with Marquee about a month ago:

I couldn’t be more disappointed in this network run by corporate suits, the farthest things from Cubs fans aka Bleacher Bums. Imagine having to wear a suit every day to a ball game. Shit, I can’t even imagine that for a corporate job, but that’s what it became. Seeing Len & JD in a suit just wasn’t right. And yeah, maybe in the big scheme of things it’s a small thing, but it’s more than that; it’s the tip of the iceberg I’m sure. Trying to put Len & JD in a box was not the way to go. These guys vibe off each other, tell funny stories, share baseball history, and it works. Making them follow more of a script each game, from their clothing, to what dumb ass guest announcer (Dempster again? Just shoot me) they have to talk with each game, it was a bad move. I’d like to think Len called their bluff when he voiced his opinion to them; they wouldn’t budge, so Len said I’m gone. Good for you Len; bravo and good luck in your next gig… I’m sure you’ll be great.

Oh yeah, about that next gig, it’s still in Chicago, with the other baseball team, on the radio… good luck with Darrin Jackson by the way; talk about an announcer that sucks. Sometimes I just like to listen to baseball on the radio, and obviously when the Cubs are on, I’m blessed, but when they’re not, and I’m in the mood, I would turn on the Sox game…. woof! Len will instantly make it a better product, but man, working with DJ… you sure about this Len? Haha…

I started getting texts, trying to make fun of me and my love for the Cubs because the Sox got our guy… really? He doesn’t play on the field for one. Secondly, I love Len, but we’re not talking about Harry Caray here, ok? All the shit the Sox fans talk about the Cubs but all they really want to do is be just like us; THEY want to be the talk of the town… the red headed step child syndrome. Hey, the Sox have a great team; they should be good for years to come. Good luck to them, but this is a Cubs town… always has been, always will be. Enjoy your window; keep Tony away from the booze on game day.

I look forward to the next Cubs broadcaster; hoping JD sticks around. But what is most important, is not who is calling the action, but the action itself. We’ll be OK. After all, losing Steve Stone felt worse than this IMO… Go Cubs!
