December 4, 2016: Long Time Coming

posted in: Bears | 2

It’s been strange to not have any so far this year.  With the forecast 110% correct, we got slammed with our first snowfall of the year on Sunday.  Our mild fall & winter is officially over; the first snow has landed.  And oh yeah, the Bears won Sunday.  It was a long time coming.

I knew they would win.  I did.  Check my blog from 2 days ago.  I predicted it.  Ok, ok… I pretty much pick the Bears to win every week, so finally I get lucky.  Yeah, I know.  Still, I really did like them to beat the Niners on Sunday, and they followed my keys to do it.

Give the ball to Howard!  Why not?  Feed the man.  The rook has been one of the bright spots on this 3 win Bears team.  He scored 3 times in this one.  I needed it from a fantasy angle too, as I needed to win to get in, in the final week of the fantasy football season.  He carried me, and the Bears to victory.  Not sure why we haven’t seen a steady diet of this all year.  Regardless of who is at QB, running the ball, establishing the run, is never a bad thing.

Next key was to hold Colin in check.  We certainly did.  He ended up getting pulled late in this one for Gabbert, who got tossed like a rag doll by Floyd.  Another rookie, another bright spot.  Hey, maybe this Pace guy can draft?  This next one will be the most critical.

The only problem with this Sunday’s win, was that I missed most of it.  Everything was setup perfectly.  It was decorating day at the house; we weren’t going anywhere all day.  The Christmas music was on the radio, the Bears game was on the TV, and the tree was about to be put up.  But… that first snowfall of the season hit really hard.  My DirecTV was donezo, early in the 1st quarter.  I guess I could have went on the roof earlier.

I didn’t.  We kept decorating.  I got a few text updates, and checked my fantasy team & Twitter to keep up between emptying Christmas bins.  I finally got on the roof later this evening.  That is of course where my satellite dish is.  I found a ladder in the building’s utility room.  It was an old, rickety thing… had to be about 50 years old.  As I climbed it, it creaked and swayed a bit from side to side.  Getting to the top, I knew I had to stand on that top rung… you know, the one you’re not supposed to stand on.  I had to though.  I had to just to get my arms above the hatch to pull myself up.  Made it.

After cleaning the dish of all that heavy, wet snow, we were back in business for the evening’s programming.  The Bears game was long gone, but Elf and the Blackhawks were on the agenda.

I was glad that it snowed.  Watching the start of the Bears game, with the snow coming down, with the Bears sacking Kapernick… that was very pleasing to the eye; it gave me a warm feeling in my belly.  I haven’t felt like that very much this Bears season.  In fact, it’s been quite the opposite, usually feeling like throwing up after watching each game.  This one was different.  I was very happy.

It’s nice to start the week with a Bears win; there’s been far too little of those.  Will that mean a good week?  At least it will mean a decent drive to work tomorrow, listening to some positives.  Yeah, I know… we blew our draft pick.  Yeah, I know, all the no-shows at Soldier Field.  But above all this Sunday, the Bears won, and that trumps it all.  Winning never, ever gets old, and there is never a bad time for it.  Finally a happy Bears Monday.  Bear Down boys!

Bears win, Bears win! Yeah, yeah, the draft pick, but none of the top 5 picks are guarantees, let alone any other spot in the draft. A snowy day led to Howard getting fed, finally, and rightfully so. He has been great so far as a rookie, and hopefully he continues to develop and not attend langford’s offseason regression camp. Poor colin had an awful day and was pulled…hahaha. The day could not have been better, but the clown is still kneeling…maybe his new found afro is weighing him down, or like his qb skills, his common sense is deteriorating. Whatever, done with him, enjoy that Bears win. Find some positives to carry over into the offseason in these next 4 games, and hope that pace and company have a great draft and free agent plan. BEAR DOWN!!!
