On this New Year’s Eve, I’m not going to rehash 2016; maybe I’ll save that for tomorrow’s post. Instead, I’m going to stick to the script (well, technically, I do Bears previews on Friday, but whatever.. technically I’m posting this a day early, so it IS Friday, so there!) and give you the Bears preview for the final game of this miserable 2016 season. Come on… read it… misery loves company.
I’ll be watching. It’s the last game of the year. I wish it was being played today, the last day of 2016, so that we can leave 2016 alone when it comes to the Bears. But no, we’ll have to start the first day of 2017 playing out the string. Man this year sucked for the Bears.
Vegas will be paying attention too; they always do. They’ve set the line at Minny -6; that’s fair. The Vikings have been a bit of a train wreck this year too. They sure started out like gang busters. I remember the graphic ESPN threw up comparing their defense to the 85 Bears defense through the first so many games; HA! That’s why I don’t watch ESPN. Well, how did I see this you ask? Because it was about the 85 Bears, and it must have shown up on my Twitter feed or something. I don’t watch ESPN, OK?
OK. If I were a gambling man, I would be taking the Bears here. After last week’s Vikings disaster, with the CBs not following the game plan, and doing what they wanted out there, showing a really mutiny against their head coach, who seems pretty good, I don’t expect much from the purple people. That disaster last week was worse than the catastrophe that we witnessed in Soldier Field; at least for this past week.
We’ve been witnessing garbage all year long, specifically when it comes to results, because after all, it is a results based league. I will admit; this team hasn’t been that horrible to watch lately for the mere fact that they give it their all. They haven’t given up, although they could have weeks ago. I respect that. That fact, that quality, gives me a bit of hope heading into next year. Stay healthy, add some talent, change some coaching (ahem, OC looking at you… maybe Fox too… just not Fangio) and next year will be better than this year. It has to be, right? Well, that’s what I’m going to believe.
The number of players on IR this year for the Bears is mind blowing, and that was for a team that didn’t have depth to begin with. There was really no way the Bears could recover from that. I’m not making excuses for them, I’m just being realistic. If the Bears had the depth, maybe; they still have a lot of needs, the most glaring, at QB. As long as a certain somebody is not back next year… please, please don’t bring that guy back. That ship has sailed. I’ve said it so many times already; I just want to see him gone. I do not want him on the roster when I take my son to his first Bears game next year.

I get the feeling that the Bears have more to play for than the Vikings do in this game. In a otherwise meaningless game, I go with that to determine who will win this one. The Bears will avoid the historic 3 win season, and get that 4th win. They’ll most likely still have a top 5 pick, so don’t get your panties in a bunch. It will be nice to start calendar 2017 with a win; hopefully, a sign of many more of those to come next year.
Final Score Prediction
Bears 17 Vikings 12
Ace in the Hole
Jordan Howard 62 yards and 1 TD
Yes, 62 yards. Jordan Howard needs that many yards to set the Bears franchise record for rushing yards in a season by a rookie. Let that individual achievement boost us into 2017. Or, don’t give him the ball more than 20 times, because we’re 0-12 this year when that happens. So that means when Howard gets 20+ carries, we’re 3-0? Yes, thus my calling out of the OC above. One more game, one more win? I hope so. Bear Down!

Once again, an after the game pick here, but I thought the Bears were going to win this game. I thought they were going to come out and end this season on a positive note. The only positive, other than this being the last game of this miserable season, is that Jordan Howard set the Bears rookie rushing record. Unlike the Bears, he had a great season…a breakout season! Avoid the sophomore struggles next year, and be ready for a heavy workload, regardless of who is at qb. The Bears end up 3-13…another playoff-less year, another hard to watch season. Things need to happen this offseason. This has to change. I am sure we will discuss this further so I will save my thoughts until then. BEAR DOWN for a successful offseason!
