The Bowl season is building up. As the days countdown towards the end of the year, there are more and more games. If only I could watch them all… Between December 26th & December 30th, there have been 19 bowl games. From one point of view, I think all these games are a bit much, but from another… this is great! When it comes to football, whether pro or college, I say the more games the better. Let’s run through some of these.
Of course, I didn’t bet them ALL, but to kick off this run of bowl games, I did take Minnesota over Bowling Green; that was a W. Texas St vs Rice turned out to be a blowout in Texas State’s favor, while Kansas UNLV was a very good game. In the Kansas UNLV game, there was some crazy line movement. What started about 11.5 points in Kansas’ favor, ended up getting bet up to 13 points, and then, on the last day, started dropping like a brick. Before the game started, it was only 7 points; wtf?!?! I was reading around, and couldn’t figure it out. I guess people were speculating on Kansas’ QB and RB… not really sure, but all that UNLV money went down the tubes, or should I say, in Papa Vegas’ pockets. Kansas won 49-36.
On the 27th, action continued with Va Tech beating Tulane in a downpour 41-20, while West Virginia beat UNC 30-10. Of course, NC had nobody playing for them. Louisville vs USC was similar in one aspect, because USC had many guys out, but… USC still kicked Louisville’s ass 42-28. The last game on that day featured Oklahoma St vs Texas A&M; I did bet on this one as well, and I was on the winning side again with a 31-23 W. On December 28th, it was BC over SMU 23-14, Rutgers over Miami 31-24, and Kansas St over NC St 28-19. The best game on that day was Arizona vs Oklahoma. Arizona had been very hot down the stretch while Oklahoma was playing with their backup QB, who by the way is a 5 star prospect. It was back and forth a bit before Arizona pulled away 38-24; I was going to bet on Zona, but ended up with no bet in this one.
The last 2 days of College Football in 2023 was another blizzard of games. Clemson beat but did not cover over Kentucky 38-35, while Notre Dame pounded Oregon St 40-8. Memphis took care of Iowa St 36-26, but the best game on THIS day was Missouri vs Ohio St. Thankfully, this was my biggest bet of the bowl season; I had 4 different bets on Mizzou, and cashed them all with a 14-3 victory. The 30th featured Maryland handling Auburn 31-13, Wyoming edging Toledo 16-15, and Ole Miss beating Penn St 38-25. The big game was the “snub bowl” when Georgia took on Florida State. Unfortunately, I was on the wrong end of this 63-3 bloodbath, but overall, a pretty successful few days of bowl game betting.
This only leaves the January 1st games, the traditional day for the big bowl games, and of course, the championship game that will be played on January 8th. 6 games to go and college football will be bye-bye… thankfully we’ll still have the NFL for a little while longer. Going to miss college football…
