December 28, 2024: My Fantasy Heroes

How many players over the years have there been that you will never forget based on the impact they had on the outcome of your Fantasy Football season? I would love to hear these. As you’d suspect, I have a few.

Let’s start with the bad: Tony Romo. I was in the finals; I was projected to win. We all know how those projections work. Still, I had the better team no doubt. However, my QB, Tony Romo, got hurt in the first series of the game against the Eagles; he never came back in. I got crap from my QB. I ended up JUST losing; what a kick in the nads. How can you avoid that? I guess I could have started Baker Mayfield on my bench; I would have won then. I mean, if I would have started any other QB but Tony Romo I would have won. That one stung. We had something similar come up this year with Jalen Hurts in the semis. The #1 team in our family league, with only 1 loss all season, had him; knocked out with a concussion…. over! To be fair, he still lost by a ton, so even if he did get Jalen’s points, most likely, he’s still losing. Can’t compare to my story, sorry.

OK, let’s talk some good. Alvin Kamara. I know I tell my son I will NOT buy him a jersey of another non-Chicago team, but man… I wanted to buy an Kamara jersey after his 6 TD performance in the finals for me earning me my first championship in that particular league. I will never, ever forget AK for that game. I remember I was driving around, listening to the game on the radio… TD after TD after TD… and I still only won by a point after a late pick by the other guy’s QB!!! Yes, thank my lucky stars for that one. You know, you need skill, but you also need luck, especially come playoff time.

Ja’Marr Chase. How about his performance a couple years back in the finals? Heck yeah I had him on my team; another jersey I wanted to purchase. Similarly, I still barely won, when the Steelers refused to throw one more pass to Diontae Johnson in the MNF game. Dodged another bullet there; raised another fantasy football title.

Let’s fast forward to this year. Saturday was the next round of games for championship week, and you bet your ass I had both Joe Burrow AND Tee Higgins in the family league, the league I was down by 100 points after Christmas Day. I came storming back to take the lead; hell yeah! Unfortunately, there was another side to this story. Although I had both Burrow and Tee in my other leagues, one in each, I was going against them too!!! This is what happens when you get into multiple fantasy leagues. How will it all shake out???

Sunday is next, and of course, the last Monday nighter of the year. 3 championship game berths, how many titles? Give me one at least… one where I can get paid… haha.
