December 28, 2016: Pay That Man His Money

posted in: Blackhawks | 1

It’s one of my favorite movie lines from Rounders.  After Mike McDermott takes out Teddy KGB when he flopped the nut straight.  I can’t help but think of that when I read the Blackhawks resigned Artemi Panarin to a 2 year 12 million dollar deal.

I remember when I first heard of this kid.  It was during the 2015 Stanley Cup run.  Word was that the Hawks signed this kid from the KHL in Russia; word was that he was pretty damn good.  The Russian Patrick Kane if you like…  I’m not sure about all that, but he is definitely good… really good.  The Bread Man as he is affectionately known by now just cashed in for a bunch of dough; he deserves it.

I’m glad the Hawks paid him.  We talk about all the ex-Hawks in the league, and all these guys that the Hawks decided not to pay.  You can’t pay everybody, especially when you have a core making so much money; especially when you have a couple core guys making a lot of loot.  You have to manuever under that salary cap; we know the Hawks are the best in the business there.  Still, there have been a couple guys I wished we would have paid.

Playing the Jets this week, who seem to own us for some reason this year, I see one guy I wish we would have kept.  His net presence during that 1st Stanley Cup run was huge.  Dustin Byfuglien is still a pretty good player, although he was stuffed by Crow on a breakaway Tuesday night.  I would have loved to keep him.  Camped out in front of the net… his physical presence… that is something the Hawks could always use.

There are many sex-related disorders like premature ejaculation, buying levitra from canada erectile dysfunction, masturbation addiction, fake orgasm, etc. At one point it was known as the levitra for sale but that is not all this natural medicine is good for. So you should always dedicate 10-15 minutes for proper foreplay to make her aroused and then indulge in sexual levitra price activity. Oral kamagra jelly has the same contents which free sample levitra other sildenafil tablets have. Another guy that year we let walk I thought we should have kept too.  Niemi says No! was the famous call by Foley.  I thought he could have been our goalie for a long time.  The Hawks gambled, and in this case, it paid off, as Crow grew into a guy I’m not sure anybody thought he could be.

Finally, the guy we let walk after the 2015 Cup.  Brandon Saad was one of those guys I thought should have been made part of our core.  He’s having a very good year with Columbus this year, as they are high in the standings out East.

By paying the Bread man, we make him part of the core; somewhat I guess.  The 2 year deal is fair I would say, but it’s only for 2 years.  Looks like the Hawks are still treading lightly here.  They’ve seen enough to sign up for 2 more years, but not enough to lock in long term.  Or, maybe in 2 more years, part of the current core, will come off the books, and that will free up the Hawks to give Bread Man his huge, long term deal.  Without researching the salaries, I’m sure that’s part of the reason.  Some of our core guys are getting up there…

But for now, it was a great move in my opinion.  I can dig seeing him blast one timers past opposing goalies from his sweet spot on the ice.  Paired up with Kane on the Russian line, we see great things.  After all, Kane has assisted on 33 of his 45 goals; got to keep that combo together.  He’s young, he’s fast, and he can score.  What’s not to like?  Nice job Bowman.  Pay that man his money!

    Great movie, great scene!
    Bhawks signing Panarin, great move!
He is amazing with the puck and has a wicked one timer. Even though the signing is for just 2 years, it adds his name to core of the Bhawks. No way they were going to let him go. Just like most years since winning that Cup in 2010, the Bhawks are poised to make a legitimate run on the Cup this year, and Panarin is and will be a big part of that. Congrats Bhawks and Panarin! You trap me…hahaha
