December 27, 2015: A Win is a Win is a Win

It feels good.  I don’t care what the situation is, it always feels good to win.  It creates good feelings across the board.  How can winning be a bad thing?

It can’t, except if trying to secure the highest draft pick possible.  That seemed to be the Bears mission the past 3 weeks, but not Sunday in Tampa.  It was mission aborted, as we got the much needed W.  I almost forgot what it felt like.  I mean, the last win was in Green Bay on Thanksgiving…  We seemingly got some help early in the game.

You remember, the screen pass that Cutler has forgot to throw the past couple weeks.  It was tipped in the air and caught for an INT, setting up Tampa in great field position.  But then it happened… Papa Vegas had our back.  It’s good to be on the right side of it once in a while.  A mysterious flag appeared, and a defensive face mask was called, giving the Bears the ball back and a first down.  I wasn’t complaining, but wow… Well, it must have been a bonehead play, let me see the replay.  No, you didn’t miss it… they never showed the replay.  There was even a hard time trying to assign who the penalty was on.  It was a phantom call, but we’ll take it.  You did see who the head official was right?  Yeah, Pete Morelli can always be counted on to get the job done.

So we made one other boneheaded play that sticks out, and that was the poorly played ball in the air by Tracy Porter which allowed the Bucs to take the lead in the 3rd quarter.  It was like he was hesitating; he could have picked that ball.  But… he waited back, then tried a half ass tackle, as Sims sped towards the end zone.  He did make a nice pass breakup later in this one, as did Kyle Fuller.  The nicest play on defense had to be the pick by Jones-Quartey.  Who?  Yeah, but we all knew his name when he wrestled the ball away from the Tampa WR on the goalline.  He actually had a nice game, as did Timu for the 2nd straight week.  Are we seeing pieces of the 2016 defensive unit?

Cutler was solid OK.  I love how we get these broadcasters who don’t know shit, like Matt Millen.  Yes, I believe he did call him elite.  More on those broadcasters in a second.  He was very efficient on his 5 yard passes throughout the game, but I thought it was the running game that really won this game for us.  All 3 of the RBs had good games making Lovie remember one of the keys to winning the game… you know, you have to get off the bus running.  Speaking of running, we didn’t allow much to the Bucs in this one.  Winston looks like he has some promise, but he can’t do it all alone.

So back to those guys in the booth that FOX assigned to this meaningless game.  Sam Rosen compared the illustrious histories of the Bears and the Bucs.  I started swearing at the TV; my son was sleeping.  My wife wasn’t, and asked what the heck was wrong.  Well, let me tell you.  The fact that both franchises have 1 Super Bowl win is about the only comparison you can make Sam.  Maybe the years in the league?  The Bucs are in their 39th year, while the Bears are in their 85th..86th.  Maybe it’s the postseason victories?  The Bucs have 6 in their illustrious history, while the Bears have 17.  And what about the those 8 NFL Championships the Bears won before the Super Bowl or this idea of Buccaneers in Tampa Bay were both even thought of???  Sam, who are you crapping?  Fricking idiot.

I was just happy to win the game.  Now at 6-9, the Bears have a chance to finish… with a better losing record…. out of the playoffs again…  mediocre again.  Yeah, OK, I know, but still.  A win is a win is a win, and nothing can match the feelings generated by winning.  It’s those feelings, that positive momentum that CAN be carried over into next season… at least that’s my belief.  So that leaves us next Sunday vs Detroit…  We got one win… can we do it again… one last time in 2015… well, actually it will be 2016 technically.  How will we roll into the offseason?  I’ll be watching like I always do.  I was happy I watched this week.  Bear Down.

Nice win…that tipped screen int may have swung the entire game the Bears way. Try working on those screen passes jay! Forte, langford, and carey were excellent. The D forced 3 turnovers. Special teams blunder again with that blocked punt…go figure. Bears will take the W and so will we. Close out the year next week beating the lions and head into a big offseason with some positive momentum.
    BEAR DOWN!!!
