December 26, 2019: Soxmas

Yeah, OK, so the Sox have been having a pretty good offseason. The latest addition was Edwin Encarnacion on Christmas Day on top of all that; it was a Merry Soxmas.

I don’t know, OK, if I’m going to write about the Sox more. I mean, let’s be honest; what has there been to write about them the past few years? Not much. Are they finally making themselves relevant again? I guess if I do write more about them, it will be this type of tone that I have; it will be kind of snarky. The White Sox aren’t my team; the Cubs are. Still, they are from Chicago, and I try not to dislike them; it’s not easy. The way their fans are overly obsessed with the Cubs is kind of creepy. It’s like they have some sickness… some complex, like short guy complex or something; isn’t that called Napolean complex? Anyways, there are Sox fans that would rather the Cubs lose than the Sox win; I shit you not. That’s cool though… I’d hate to be like that, but I can relate. Once my team has no chance for the year, I spend most of my energy rooting against other teams; rooting for teams that I dislike to lose. I get it, sort of.

The Cubs are from Chicago though… I could never understand rooting hard for a team from another city to beat one from your own city. It’s like we can hate each other OK, but when one or the other side of town is NOT involved in the outcome of a particular game or series, we shouldn’t root for some other city over our own, right? I didn’t watch the 2005 World Series for that very reason; I didn’t want to root against the Sox… but at the same time, I couldn’t stand to see them win before us.

Times are different now. The Cubs have won theirs; I have seen it in my lifetime. That makes me a lot less “haterish” towards the Sox. Still can’t stand them, but I guess I don’t have to try as hard not rooting for them to lose. I’m still feeling this out. After all, the Sox were my team at one point. Yes, as a kid, I liked both the Cubs and the Sox; my Dad allowed it. It was fun… rooting for two different baseball teams; going to two different parks. Didn’t see much winning those days, but the fact that I played baseball more than any other sport too, made the Cubs and Sox both important at the time. I eventually made my choice; don’t want to bore you with all the details of how I got there…. but oh yeah, I’m there.

This is a Chicago sports site, and I should talk about them… at least that’s what my Dad tells me. We’ll see how it goes. For now, I want to congratulate the Sox, as they were the first Chicago baseball team to reach 4 World Series championships. Hang on, wait, being told that’s an Offseason Championship trophy they won; that don’t mean shit. Go Cubs!
