December 24, 2017: TGIC

Can we play the Browns every week?  The Bears beat the hapless Browns 20-3 on Christmas Eve 2017 in front of a half empty Soldier Field.  It’s always nice to get a win…

Thank God It’s Cleveland is what every team in the NFL should say every week when they look up and see the Browns on their schedule; TGIC boys.  All the high draft picks this franchise has had and they still look like absolute dog shit.  I heard folks refer to the Bears as the Browns of the NFC… I’ll have to go ahead and disagree on that.  I’m glad the Bears backed me up on that one.

I caught some of the first half with Jeff and Tom, and some of the second half on the TV.  Although it ended up being a blowout, it could have been different.  The first play of the second half which was a pick 6 for Cleveland ended up being wiped out with a offsides penalty.  At the time, the Browns would have taken a 10-6 lead; I’m counting the extra point too… every other team seems to be able to make those.  But instead, the Bears took advantage of that missed opportunity, and scored (and got the extra point) to take a 13-3 lead; they wouldn’t look back.

The defense feasted on this hapless team, as it should have.  One thing that made this game a little easier to watch was the snow that was coming down; it’s always a bit more fun playing in the snow.  Everybody did that at one point in their lives right?

We did many times.  It doesn’t get much better than that… all bundled up, trying to keep your footing in normal gym shoes, hitting the ground and feeling no pain… unless you hit a patch of ice…. and if you hit your head, you probably had a concussion and didn’t even realize it.  The most memorable time in the snow, besides the numerous times in our backyard throughout the years growing up, was across the way at Harrison Park.  We were playing between the baseball fields along 19th st.  Everybody had hung their coats in the 3rd base dugout of the one baseball field on Damen.  I’m sure I’ve told this story before.  Anyways, as we were engaged in a snow battle, somebody looked up to see somebody running to a waiting car with all of our coats; man, guys were pissed.  All the Starter coats got up and walked away.  I wasn’t upset, and that’s because I didn’t have a Starter coat.  In fact, mine was the only coat they did NOT take… At the moment, I wasn’t mad at my Mom for picking out that three quarters length puffy jean jacket to wear that winter.

I don’t think the Browns got their coats stolen on this Christmas Eve… and that’s good, because that’s about all they have left.  One more week away from the 0-16 record; I’m glad Akiem was right, and we weren’t that one.

Next up is the season finale with the Vikings, and the end of another crap year for our Bears.  Will coaching changes follow soon after?  Who should the Bears hire for their next head coach?  All stuff to talk about later this week.  Onto JCs birthday…  Bear Down!

Thankfully, the Bears showed that they are at least a level or two ahead of the browns on Christmas Eve. I mean, we as Bears fans, think that we have it bad. But imagine being a die hard browns fan? OUCH! This team was 1-15 last year and looks to be 0-16 this year. How much worse can it get for their franchise? I do not feel sorry for them at all. F cleveland and all of their sports teams! I was glad that the Bears won. If they beat the viqueens on New Years Eve, the Bears will have doubled their win total from 2016. This has to be seen as a good thing from a progress perspective, but it should not save any jobs. Heads need to roll. Urgency should be top priority. Not making the playoffs…again…is NOT acceptable. Whatever has to happen this offseason needs to end up in a Bears playoff visit next year. Much more to come on our Bears, but at least we know they are not as bad as that caca team to the east. BEAR DOWN!!!
