December 23, 2014: Cutler Crisis Continues

posted in: Bears | 0

So now Claussen has a concussion, and Jay is back in?  Say it ain’t so, say it ain’t so…

I thought last week’s benching was it.  I thought the Cutler era in Chicago was over.  I thought it was the beginning of the end for Cutler, the coaching staff, and the GM.  I was happy.  Now this?

It makes complete sense that Claussen has a concussion after that cheap shot hit late in the game.  He got his bell rung pretty good; good enough to jump up and want to kick the guy’s ass.  I’ll tell you what… that was more fight that we’ve seen out of Cutler maybe ever.  The fact that he was high fiving all the offensive lineman after a touchdown was telling; it showed leadership qualities, those that you’d expect from your QB, even if it is from a career backup.  He should be OK, whether it be here or somewhere else, he should have secured a backup QB job in the NFL with that performance.  At the very least, he was competent; more than I could say about some other backup Bears QBs, like Caleb Hanie and the guy who mastered the art of holding the clipboard… can’t remember his name… Quinn maybe.  Anyways, he’s done, maybe will not return to the Bears, so now we turn back to Cutler?

There are many reasons why he should NOT play Sunday.  Let’s say you are a Cutler fan.  Why would we want to risk injury at the end of a season from hell?  It’s bound to happen.  Not only would that hurt Cutler fans, but it would hurt those wanting him out of town too.  If he IS on his way out of town, then why would he want to risk injury?  If we were to find a sucker to take his salary, or part of his salary, and were able to gain some assets out of the deal, why would we risk that?  I’m not sure what is going on here, but that shouldn’t surprise me.

People have been calling for Fales.  I don’t know much about this guy, but why not?  Because he has never played in the NFL???  Who cares at this point?  Let’s see what he has.  We did draft the kid.  I thought we should have drafted a QB in a higher round years ago to give us an insurance policy for Cutler, but that didn’t happen either.

Cutler cannot prove ANYTHING to us on Sunday.  His fate is sealed; he is who we thought he was.  I hate to think about Cutler coming back under ANOTHER coaching regime, another offensive coordinator; why let the coach killer poison another team?  So if avoiding injury is the main reason, the second reason would be to keep going forward.  Benching him was going forward in my opinion.  It was the start of a house cleaning in Halas Hall come Monday… at least I hope so.  Bringing him back in does nothing, but gives us another example of how nobody has a clue on the sideline or in the front office of what the hell they are doing.

Trestman says it gives us the best chance to win the game.  Although that may be true by default, that hasn’t worked all year long, as evident in a 5-9 record with Cutler… as evident with 1 playoff appearance in 6 years… as evident in his pathetic career record vs Green Bay.  This franchise QB gives us no tangible advantage, in a position where we have invested heavily, in a position that is supposed to be the leader of this team, in a position who is supposed to make everyone around him better.  This may be the prelude to an almost certain Hate File for #6… I’m ready… I have one in the chamber… just patiently waiting.

Seeing him back on the field will bring back memories of this season to forget; why would we want to do that?  Let’s put Cutler behind us.  It was a great idea, a great concept… one in which I was excited about, and supportive for a bit.  It’s failed, and yet we signed him long term.  It makes absolutely no fricking sense, but that is the situation we will try to alleviate ourselves from this offseason.

I don’t want to see him in a Bears uniform again after Sunday.  I thought I had seen the last of him on the field.  I was ready to apply the motto out of sight, out of mind, but now, there he is, right in front of our face again, with his pouty face.  Play ANYONE but Cutler this Sunday… please end this misery.  Let the Cutler Crisis be over…
