December 22, 2024: Same Old Same Old

On Sunday, at Soldier Field, it was the same old same old. At one point during this season, and considering how well we played against Detroit last year, certainly thought this COULD be a W. Unfortunately, that point came and went about 2 months ago. It was 1st place against last place in the division, and it showed. The Lions dispatched of us easily, on their way to the postseason. Meanwhile, are the Bears still looking who to fire next?

I guess I shouldn’t classify THIS loss in the same category as the past 8 in a row. Can you believe that shit? 9 losses in a row? I don’t even want to look up if that ever happened before; I’m sure it did. Anyways, losing to the Lions is nothing to be ashamed of on the surface. The Lions are the best team in football IMO regardless of the records of the Chiefs and Bills. Yes, the Chiefs are the champs, and yes, the Bills beat the Lions already, but I’m still taking Detroit in the Super Bowl if they get there. Detroit is dealing with some serious injury issues, yet, they haven’t skipped a beat. Someone take note of how to build a franchise with some depth. While some teams cannot afford any injuries, others can withstand them, and still flourish. I wouldn’t call beating us nowadays flourishing, but… you get my drift. The Lions are the cream of the crop in the NFL right now. How many times would I have been able to say that without getting laughed at? I’m not mad at them. I’m all about seeing teams succeed that haven’t; Detroit winning their first ever Super Bowl would actually be perfectly fine. Good luck to them.

As far as the Bears go, it’s playing out the string time. It’s pretty clear they’ve tossed in the towel. What is there left to play for? Well, how about a little something called pride? How about trying to figure out ways to win these close games we continue to lose year in year out? There’s a reason why the Chiefs win all these games by the skin of their teeth, and a reason why teams like the Bears lose them. How do we turn that around? Who can help us do this? Surely the new head coach will have that squarely on his to-do-list, but the players… they are the ones that have to make it happen; they’re not making shit happen right now. Again, losing to Detroit… OK, but 9 in a row?!?! Brutal.

Two games left before we can mercifully close the chapter on this season. There are silver linings, yes, but overall, just another kick in the nuts. Seeing every other team in the division punch their tickets to the postseason, while we watch at home, is getting really old; things have to turn eventually, don’t they? And I’m not talking about one year every decade where the Bears wake up. I’m talking about building something; I’m talking about sustained success. Does this franchise even know what this means? Once upon a time we did… Bear Down.
