Sticking to the Thursday preview again, a day early, which actually makes sense this week since the Bears will play on Saturday, which just so happens to be Christmas Eve this week. Don’t expect a Christmas miracle to happen in Soldier Field that night, and that’s OK; just remember, we don’t really want to win. In this particular case, our chances to win would be slim to none anyways. The Bears will be matched up against the Super Bowl favorite IMO the Buffalo Bills.
Papa Vegas has the Bills pegged as an 8 point favorite, which raises a question: why so little? I know last week the Eagles didn’t cover the line against us, but I kind of felt that one; not feeling anything with this one, which is what most folks will feel if they actually attend the game. Winter has officially arrived; it will be below zero for Saturday’s game, and that’s the actual temperature, NOT the wind chill; let’s not even ask about that. The ticket prices have followed the temperature outside, dropping to single digits in some place. Less than $10 to see the Bears play?!?! If it wasn’t Christmas Eve, then man, that would be hard to pass up. If I know the Buffalo fanbase at all, the Bills Mafia as they’re called, I’m expecting a big caravan driving west to Chicago for this one, taking advantage of prices they can only dream about to see their team play in person in Buffalo. They seem like a cool group to party with; they should be fine in Chicago for this particular game. They certainly shouldn’t be treated like that Packer fan a couple weeks ago that was rolled down the stairs in the upper level; ouch.
Ouch is kind of how I think this game is going to go. You see, the thing about the Bills… they’re not just offense, although their QB is awesome. If we think Fields can be as good as Hurts, the guy we saw last week, that’s one thing. I think only Mahomes is in the same conversation as Josh Allen; I think I’d even take Josh over him, although the same concern with Fields running has to apply to Josh. Sure, he’s a big tough guy, like Fields is big and strong, but… those defensive guys are out for blood, and one hit when scrambling… That would be my biggest concern with the Bills this year, unless you want to go back in the time machine and worry about their historic performances in the Super Bowl. This is the reason that I want them to win, of course, they have to get there first. They should move that much closer to clinching home field throughout vs the Bears this week.
Final Score Prediction: Bills 30 Bears 17
Ace in the Hole: Mother Nature; she is undefeated. Stay warm out there Bears Fans!
I’m serious though. If it wasn’t Christmas Eve, I would consider going to the game. Not sure if my wife would give my son the OK to come freeze his ass off with his pops, but I’d ask… we’d layer up, bring some blankets, etc. Our first game was pretty cold, although this one will be another level cold. To stay warm? Just think about our draft pick next year, which will stay #2 overall with another loss to the Bills. Warmer? Think about our cap space next year. Warmer yet? Fields surrounded by weapons on the offensive side of the ball because of this, and some pass rushers on defense too. Want to burn? Super Bowl next year? OK, maybe my brain is frozen too. Bear Down!!!
