December 21, 2022: Mojo Rising

posted in: Bulls | 0

As the Bulls Hawks game came down the stretch, it had a familiar feeling; how many of these close games have the Bulls lost this year? One of the most recent gut wrenching losses was in Atlanta, when they flipped in the game winning shot as time expired; it was time for the Bulls to flip the script on Wednesday night, and that’s exactly what they did. Ayo tipped in an ugly game winning attempt from DD as time expired; touche pussycat! The Bulls now have won 2 in a row; dare I say, their mojo is rising???

The Bulls still sit at a disappointing 13-18 record, outside of even the extended playoffs in the East, closer to the bottom of the conference than the top. But, if my math is correct, there are still 51 games left to play this year; certainly the Bulls can turn this thing around, right? After dealing with the depression of the Bulls season, going level by level, player by player, spreading the blame around, how about we change that tune, and spread some cheer around? It is the holiday season after all.

Bravo for Ayo! After an impressive rookie campaign, he was given the nod to start this year; it didn’t work out well. Certainly, he’s no Lonzo Ball; no timetable on his return yet btw. But Ayo… he’s a player man. He may not be the most talented/skilled guy; he’s not a three point shooter who everybody in the NBA tries to be nowadays. He’s a gamer though. He’s a hustle guy, a defense guy, a guy that does a lot of little things well. You need guys like this on your team. Certainly not going to look for him to score double digits regularly; he’s not really a true facilitator either. That’s OK. Just like this Bulls team in general, let’s not try to make him something he’s not. He’s a great player in his own right; let him do his thing. Let him be a piece of this puzzle for the Bulls; I think he can.

But yeah, about trying to be something we’re not; stop it. Maybe today’s NBA doesn’t look kindly upon the Bulls, and all the analytics and the worship of the 3 point ball, but I do believe the Bulls can still be a very good team. Do they have all the pieces in place? I think we still need something. Of course, Ball is the guy we keep talking about, we keep waiting for; let’s not hold our breath. He may never come back, plus, is that one guy going to make us that top tier team? You can make that argument, based on how the Bulls did at the start of last year; I can’t completely knock that. But yeah, we still do need something, somebody. Besides from the guys we have playing better, adding a piece or two may be the wiser thing to do, vs blowing this thing up; AKME has some thinking to do.

In the meantime, it’s payback time. If the Bulls mojo is really rising, then we’ll get a little revenge against the Knicks Friday night in MSG. We need to string them together; looking forward to Friday night. Go Bulls!!!
