I’m sure this happens more than I think, but… since I’m paying close attention to (and betting on) the bowl games this year… man, talk about some bowl swings. Did you see what happened in the Western Kentucky Old Dominion game?
Yeah, I know… 2 teams you probably have never seen play. Through my research, reading and watching stuff, I’ve gotten familiar with most teams and their situations. In this particular game, I was leaning ODU. The line had opened around -1.5 and landed at about -6.5 before kickoff. 5 point movement towards ODU. I was pissed when I saw the score ODU 28 Western Kentucky 0 because I never made that bet; talk about an easy win, right? Well, not so fast my friend. If you’ve ever bet on a game, heck, if you are a die hard fan of any team, you know, or you should know… it’s not over until it’s over. I refused to think it was over at any point during my team’s championship runs; the most recent was the Cubs… talk about never wanting to count your chickens. I learned that lesson, if I didn’t know it already, back in 2003… when we were pouring shots when Prior took the mound in the 8th inning of Game 6 of the NLCS; brutal. And yes, when Rajai Davis hit that bomb… it certainly brought me crashing back down to earth. Not until Rizzo squeezed that ball, was I able to breathe freely. So yeah, I can already relate because how much I love my teams. Now when you have money on a game… it’s the same type of thing. Don’t tell me nice pick until the ticket cashes, OK? I don’t consider myself a superstitious person in general, but when it comes to my sports teams, and betting on games, yeah, count me in. The final score of this particular bowl game ended up being Western Kentucky 38 ODU 35 in OT. Yes, Western outscored ODU 38-7 to end the game. Unbelievable… then I was glad I hadn’t placed that bet…
The game on Tuesday between UTSA and Marshall was kind of crazy too. The line opened about -8.5 for UTSA and was bet up all the way to around -13… until earlier in the day their QB was ruled out. The line started dropping like a rock… ending up at UTSA -7; all that money pouring in on Marshall. Cool thing about this game was it was Pennington vs McCown… yeah, Chad’s son and Josh’s son going head to head. I wasn’t on this game at all, but UTSA ended up taking care of business regardless of their backup QB; Pennington was actually the backup QB for Marshall, but was pegged the starter since the get go. Although Marshall had a 14-0 lead, they would end up getting pounded 35-17… outscored 35-3 to finish the game. I thought the NFL week to week caused whiplash…
Yeah, hold on tight… bowl season has only just begun. With bets on 7 more games and counting, this should be a wild ride. Bring it on! And remember, don’t count your money until the game is officially over…
