December 20, 2020: Found Offense

posted in: Bears | 0

Well, well, well… look what we’ve found. Yes, it’s an NFL offense that has been on display for the last few weeks, including Sunday’s win over the Vikings. Isn’t it nice to watch the Bears and actually see them score points? I’m not sure why it’s happening all of a sudden, but I’m not complaining. The Bears are back at 500.

Talk about a tale of 2 halves of a season… how about 3? The 5-1 start that had us thinking there’s no way the Bears can blow this and miss the playoffs. The 6 straight losses and fire the entire team, to now winning the last 2… potentially setting up winning out to secure a playoff spot with help from the nothing to play for Packers in Week 17 and a loss from the Cardinals? Whew… Where do I start?

Well, let’s take the easy one: Cairo Santos is a kicking God… haha. 20 something straight makes? That’s nuts; where was this guy back in 2018? And for the record, I’ve seen a couple people say it, and I agree: Parkey will miss a critical kick and screw up the Browns season. OK, who cares about that guy any more, we have Cairo!!! The dude is automatic, which is a great feeling, like that feeling when Gould had it going. Save some money to keep this guy…

Next up is David Montgomery. Go ahead and check the history; I’ve always liked this dude. You try running when there is no blocking and you have to beat 2-3 guys every play. The guy has a great motor; that was always evident. Now he’s getting some room to run, and wow! We’re seeing him make more guys miss, break tackles, and explode in the open field. This is a really fun development too. So we OK with him as our starting RB now?

OK, now to the hard one. Trubisky has looked great. Yeah, he had that one late pick which could have screwed us… one that can’t happen… but he had another really good game. I’m going to say that the offensive line improvement has a big part to do with this for starters. Secondly, we’re coaching to his strengths… is that what I’ve heard? So we waited over a year to do this? That’s funny to me. But yes, at the end of the day, Mitch is getting the job done in the few games since he’s been back. What now? Well, that’s a loaded question with a really long answer, but to take it one step at a time, it’s beat Jacksonville next week. A few weeks ago, I wasn’t sure that this Bears team could beat anybody. Now, we have to all feel pretty confident that this is going to happen, which will bring us to Week 17… We’ll talk more about that, and the rest of the long answer on Trubisky in the days to come…

For now, shit, I’m happy to be celebrating another Bears win. The Texans one… OK. To beat the Vikings, that’s better. We’re not done yet though. It is fun to still have something to play for, and NOT a draft pick. It’s hard to comprehend, but the Bears are looking good again baby… playoffs? Bear Down!!!
