Don’t look now. The Blackhawks are 3-1-1 in their past 5 games. Is this the Hawks turning the corner or a speed bump down to the basement of the NHL?
I’d love to believe the first option. We do have some young guys making things happen. We’ve actually been playing decent defense. We still have the proud core. I always thought in the past few years that we’d find that perfect mix of young and old, of young and hungry with the guys that been there done that. It hasn’t happened thus far. Are we finally seeing a glimpse of that?
Crow is gone, not sure when he’ll be back. Are we going to ride Wardo as I’ve seen him called? Are we going to let this young kid start in goal? I don’t see why we wouldn’t run with the kid. Put him in there; see what he can do. Let’s see what we do and don’t have moving forward. The thing is, the way the Blackhawks have played defense for a while, it doesn’t matter who’s in goal. They’ve got no chance. If we play defense a lot better, then that gives anybody a chance. I need to see a lot more of this improved defense and I’d love to see some of Delia.

It seems like we’ve been through a rought part of the schedule at the worst possible time. Things don’t exactly get any easier either, although when you’re at the bottom, every opponent is a challenge. Maybe the question I should be asking is do we want the Hawks to be better or go into complete tank mode?
Well, this isn’t the NBA, but if it were, they would be prime for the tank. It’s not really publicized that much in the NHL. I don’t like it period; think there should be rules to discourage it. I just hate to see my teams lose game after game. I want to see them win each game; I’m not sitting there thinking about long term plans when I watch the Hawks play. But somebody has to. And if that somebody thinks the Hawks need to get a top pick, then make some more moves; trade another older guy or two. Bring up some more young guys. Prepare to add on to them with a top pick. That’s what the Bulls season has become, except they got guys getting hurt; no need to trade any of them, although that would help too.
Guess I’m still not too optimistic about the Hawks, although I do enjoy watching them win. Maybe they can keep rolling with a win in Colorado on Friday night. Go Hawks!!!
