OK, not to rehash things or anything (I’m good at that), but here we go. We understand the current #1 goal of this season is to lose games to max out the value of our long list of draft picks. I’ve also established that this should take a back seat for THIS week against you know who. So for this week, let’s go back to what our #1 goal was at the start of the season: finding out if Fields is the guy. Justin Fields is practicing, and by all signs, will be back on the field behind center for Sunday’s annual visit from the Pack. Welcome back Justin?
Some may say it’s stupid for him to play; I wouldn’t say that, but I would say I’m surprised. Yes, surprised because the previously mentioned #1 current goal of this season. Plus, if there was another goal, since I think we have found out that Fields is more than just a guy (THE guy??? TBD… but we got something right?) is to keep him healthy, and not let a serious injury to him add to the train wreck that is our season record this year. Yet, at the same time, we can’t play scared? If he is healthy, he should be playing. Should we play it more safe? Yes. Regarding those QB sweep and draw calls… maybe tone those down a bit… like all the way down (except this week of course). Yet, if we leave him back in the pocket, will he get killed anyways? Hey, our OL hasn’t been that bad right? I think they’ve been better than last year. I don’t know… roll him out, sure, keep him safe, yeah, but don’t call a lot of running plays for him… I think we can do that. I don’t want to stop him from being him though, so if there is daylight, then run Justin run. I guess that’s what folks are scared about…
Let’s put our fear to the side. Let’s be happy this kid is a gamer, and WANTS to be back on the field, even in this rubble that is our 3-9 record. Remember somebody else who WANTED to play, coming back from a more serious injury? Yeah, and no, I’m not comparing MJ coming back in 86 to make the playoffs and put up 63 in the Garden, which btw messed up our draft pick, but… part of this whole thing has to be our mind set; the Bears need to want to win every time they step on the field, even if smarter suits say NO due to the draft implications and point in the “rebuild” we’re currently at. Back to one of the points that I harp on, is we shouldn’t punt any season, ever… there IS something to be said for building a culture, and how important winning is to that. What better way to give that a boost than beating the Cheese and our “owner” Rodgers in front of the faithful at Soldier Field? Is he even playing? I hope he does.
Final Score Prediction: Bears 31 Packers 27
Ace in the Hole: Justin, Justin, Justin… 3 total TDs
Yeah, I’m a sucker, so what. I will tell you this… although my interest was way down last week vs the Jets, it’s creeping back this week, for obvious reasons, but hearing that Fields is back… yeah, I’m there too. Let’s beat these bastards. Bear Down!!!
